ELITE: SAT Boot Camp

Does different area matter? Mine is at Rowland heights (in Los Angeles). One of my friend went to Arcadia’S. Are they different?

Dam, I’m doing elite this summer, I have a feeling I’m going to be in small pieces by the end of the summer. Good Bye.

I’m going this summer, I heard from people that it really scares them into studying…

^

It’s basically gonna be death. I’ll see how it does after a few classes of horror

Don’t pay people to babysit you… it’s a waste of your money and everyone’s time.

I agree with Digerati. You’re basically paying people to discipline you. Self-study is the way to go. $2000 bucks for a babysitter? You could get a cheaper service on Craigslist…

Don’t waste your money at Elite. Do the work yourself and save time and money.

Can you guys share some of the methods here… for those maybe looking to do some self study.

From my experience, it seems like those people talking about the work out punishments are exaggerating. It’s just called a “boot camp” because it meets frequently & they’re rigorous. There really aren’t any physical exercise things worked into the program. That’s probably the teacher’s choice, not Elite’s. We never had to do anything like that. Our punishments were staying after class to finish homework and stuff.

I liked Elite when I went. The teachers were really fun and my score jumped like crazy. You only make them babysitters if you don’t do anything and just sit there. If you try you’ll get results out of it.

Elite is place for Asian parents to put their kids in during the summer, with the hope that they might improve their SAT scores while there. I have maybe 10 friends who are all going to Elite.

But then I’m not going to Elite. I went to a diagnostic test, got a 2280, saw rooms crowded with Asians, left, never went back. Apparently at boot camp they make you memorize ~50 words a day? Terrible, TERRIBLE way of memorizing vocab. Self-study is the way to go.

Elite is, however, the best preparatory class out there if you actually want classes. Given, it’s expensive, but here are Asian parents who will pay astronomical sums to get their kids into Ivy League.

It depends on where you go. I went to Northridge Elite last summer and it improved my score by about 500 points. Some of my friends are going to Valencia Elite right now and although they just started taking the SAT seriously (meaning they took their very first SAT test this year and got 1300-1400) some of them have already risen to (1900-2000) although those are probably those who just needed to get used to SAT and do well on it. None of us have to do the pushups or wallsits but there was this one substitute teacher who made a kid do finger pushups but they were close friends and just joking around.

The teachers were all really nice and try to make SAT as fun as possible, which is kinda hard to do since we were there 8.5 hours every Saturday. The kids are nice and competitive but in an amiable way so the atmosphere is very chill and comfortable.
