Elizabeth Taylor dead at 79

When she was married to John Warner and living in Washington (early 1980s?), I was driving home from work with my carpool and there she was, standing on a street corner waiting to cross, dressed all in white, and looking our way. You could see those violet eyes. Everyone in the car screamed in unison, “Elizabeth Taylor!” That remains one of my most thrilling celebrity sightings. It’s amazing I didn’t have an accident.

There are differences of opinion about how good she was in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.”

Elizabeth Taylor was certainly beautiful and quite a personality and yes, this does seem like the end of an era.

I miss Paul Newman more, though.

She was so close to Michael Jackson. May they meet again.

And yes may Elizabeth rest in peace.

My H’s now deceased father was a dentist in NYC and one of his patients was Spyros Skouras, then the Chairman of Twentieth Century Fox. Mr. Skouras told my FIL that a young actress named Elizabeth Taylor was looking for a dentist and asked him if he would see her. He declined, but told H the reason was that he didn’t like ET’s morals. By that time, she had already married a few times.

My late dad’s dentist was Norman Menken, father of Alan Menken (Disney songwriter). Dentist I know here was Julia Roberts’ dentist until she moved from her hometown to LA. He must be proud of that smile!

cbreeze,I’m a little surprised that a dentist would seemingly pass judgment on someone’s morals before he would be willing to treat them. That is certainly an interesting anecdote. My late father’s doctor for years in Pittsburgh was Jeff Goldblum’s dad. My dad always spoke highly of him.

^^ If you had known him, you wouldn’t have been be surprised. My MIL deserved sainthood for putting up with him. There must be a reason why H moved to the opposite side of the coast.

Liked her in ‘Giant.’ Wasn’t enthralled by ‘Butterfield 8.’ Burton was the best thing about ‘Cleopatra.’ Loved E.T.‘s line about her inlaws’ “no neck monster” children in ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.’
