She got the call from Suzanne Shoger in the Honors and Scholars Department.
My D heard from Ms. Ward as well. The call was mid-day on Monday. She (and we) are so honored.
She received the e-mail today with confirmation. Ms. Ward mentioned that she is being considered for a Stamp Scholar. Does anyone know anything about this? Did others hear similar? We know only what Google tells us.
To clarify, we only know what Google tells us about the Stamps Scholar.
@Frogs12345 I think Stamps is a national program. Several universities have Stamps Scholarships. I believe the Eminence program uses some Stamps $$ to fund Eminence scholarships. But don’t take my word as gospel - better to get the info from Rebecca Ward.
And Congratulations to your D. So exciting!!
@Frogs12345 I am a current Stamps Scholar at OSU; the Stamps foundation provides about 4-5 scholarships to Eminence Fellows each year that covers half the cost of attendance (Eminence covers the other half). Most fellows in my cohort have their cost of attendance covered by at least one other university-offered scholarship in addition to Eminence. The biggest benefits of Stamps at OSU are the connections to other Stamps scholars across the nation and the ability to attend the Stamps national convention every other year; OSU is putting on a thread about social enterprise at this year’s convention in Atlanta. The scholarship doesn’t really require any additional responsibilities other than a day of service each year and a couple networking events throughout the year. Congratulations!
@browniesundae @buckeye737 Thank you for the understanding! She’s only at the application level for the Stamps but it’s nice to understand.
Does anyone know when applying for these OSU scholarships if it is a separate committee outside of OSU admissions? I am asking because my daughter would like to use her common app essay for some of the required scholarship essays but not if they are going to be seen by the same set of eyes! THANKS
@isitfridayyet Mom of Eminence Fellow college class of 2022 here. Although Eminence is decided by a separate committee, they may be able to see the application (with Common App essay) so I wouldn’t chance it. Are you talking about the Honors essay or the Eminence essay, or maybe Morrill? Does her common app essay answer one of the prompts?
The Honors essay prompt is: "To what fictional character do you most relate, and why? You may select a character from animation, art, film, literature, television, theater or any other medium. "
The Eminence essay prompt is: “The Eminence Program is working on an idea called “Spark Sessions.” These are one-session classes which facilitate high-energy discussion around thought-provoking topics outside of traditional coursework. If you created a Spark Session, what idea would you explore and why? If you could invite a guest speaker(s) on this topic, who would it be?”
I couldn’t find the Morill essay prompt on the website.
BTW, they have not changed the Honors and Eminence prompts - they are the same ones my son had to answer 2 years ago. Best of luck to your D! Eminence is a great program. My DS has benefitted greatly from it and loves tOSU - we are OOS but are now totally indoctrinated Go Bucks!
Hi! Any info you can share about what to expect for the Eminence Weekend? Is there a formal interview again? What are the 4 breakout sessions outlined in the agenda? Any insights would be appreciated!!
Hello! I know this is over a year old, but I am a high school junior and I am looking for advice to get a full ride to Ohio State. If @buckeye737 is an eminence recipient, maybe I could hear about your grades/extracurricular and get advice? Thanks!
