Emmys???

Sure, Jane looks great through a lot of effort - and surgery. It doesn’t come naturally. Good for her but nothing wrong with looking one’s age as well and embracing the signs of aging.

I hope BLL comes to Netflix soon (it isn’t yet is it??) I did read the book before I knew it would be a series and really enjoyed the book.

Lots of banter on the Twitter-verse this morning over whether we should Sean Spicer deserved the chuckles and perhaps accolades he got for his quick cameo appearance on the Emmys.

As someone who doesn’t watch too much tv and not much that isn’t regular network tv, I sometimes wish there would be two Emmy shows…one for network tv and one for other tv venues (HBO, etc.).

I think Jane Fonda looks great and loved her in “The Newsroom” and “Grace and Frankie”, but I thought her hairstyle last night wasn’t as flattering as her other hairstyles.

I thought it was unfair that Kidman had a long for her speech and others were cut off.

Also why didn’t she mention her other kids??

Think Jane Fonda looked great! The other woman who looked spectacular was Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who is 56. Love her.

Just reading that Sterling K Brown had his speech cut off - I’m disappointed that I went to bed before he won! Love this man!

The ratings were low last night for the Emmy broadcast. I started to watch it and realized that I had seen almost none of the shows nominated except “The Crown”. I imagine a lot of viewers were like me.

I did watch “The Vietname War” but as with so many of the latest Ken Burns programs found it to be soporific. He has never been able to match “The Civil War” in any of his more recent documentaries.

I love Jane Fonda, and I think her plastic surgery looks great. Im surprised so many of you like that high ponytail and heavy bangs on her. It’s a very young hairstyle for an older woman. I guess I thought she looked ridiculous. I love fashion and looking younger if possible. But I guess if you liked it, then you liked it.

I watched two small bits of it but both times it appeared to be more POTUS bashing than Emmys. I don’t like my entertainment mixed with politics, one of the reasons I forego some concerts. And I thought Jane Fonda looked ridiculous. Julia Louise-Dreyfus on the other hand was stunning.

I think the ratings are down because there is a growing disconnect between what shows the average person watches and what shows are nominated for Emmy awards. I’m not a big TV person and don’t choose to pay for HBO, Hulu etc. (a minor household savings when paying tuition) so other than the opening I didn’t watch the show.

I love the way Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin look on Grace & Frankie. Love both of their hairstyles on the show. I wasn’t sure that was Jane last night until I saw a close-up. I wasn’t a fan of the pony/bangs but I understand feeling younger than you are on the inside and wanting to dress and have hairstyles of younger people.

Sterling K Brown is fantastic in This Is Us and it was horrible how they cut him off during his speech, especially after Nicole Kidman seemed to be allowed unlimited time. If they truly had the same amount of time, then I’m shocked since her speech “felt” very long.

Loved Nicole Kidmans dress.

I was out of it because I don’t have HBO and so many nominees were the cable shows. I wish I could find a way to watch Silicon Valley and Little Big Lies

Too political. I like the shows, but I cannot listen to people inside the Hollywood bubble talk about politics.

I loved Big Little Lies…the cast, the scenery and the music - just wow! I binge watched by myself earlier in the summer. I believe it was on either HBO or Amazon TV (free with Prime). I must say that I found some of the scenes between Kidman and Skarsgaard were uncomfortable to watch to the point where I was glad I was alone.

I too wondered why Nicole Kidman didn’t mention her other kids. That was really jarring to me

^^ If you guys are referring to the kids she adopted with Tom Cruise, she’s obliquely hinted before that they had become brainwashed Scientology drones who don’t talk to her, or possibly they’re not allowed to talk to her due to Scientology rules (people who leave the religion are shunned). Or maybe they all love each other but she purposely does not refer to them in public so they don’t get into trouble with the church.

Scientology considers Kidman a Suppressive Person (i.e., someone who’s hostile towards the ‘religion’) and doesn’t want the kids to have any contact with her. The kids apparently have really pulled away from her and she tries to respect their decision… presumably to keep the relations cordial in case they ever change their mind…

I don’t watch awards shows… too frivolous for my taste and I am out of touch with most of the shows anyway. I have HBO and watched a few episodes of Big Little Lies…I wish I understood hot to use my Direct TV so I would watch it on demand style

Well, we stopped watching when they stopped talking politics–we really only wanted to see Colbert. It seems to me that the problem is with all the different platforms, nobody has watched more than a fraction of the TV shows involved. It’s not like the Oscars, where you can at least try to see all the films.

I watched the Vietnam first episode on PBS which I really thought was well done. I enjoyed the history of French IndoChina and tthe struggle for independence from France and the post WWII dynamics and so I turned on the Emmys following that. I agree that I loved Nicole Kidman’s dress and also her speech although they did let her speak too long as compared to cutting off others. Have not seen the show or read the book. Haven’t seen the majority of the shows as I don’t have HBO or any of the streaming services although DH and I still take DVD’s out of the library and most HBO/Showtime shows show up still on DVD. Actually we just had a 4 month comp HBO subscription from our cable provider so I did see the Robert De Niro/Michelle Pfeiffer movie about Madoff, which I thought was very strong. Also watched a few movies but that show wasn’t airing then. I loved Julie Louis Dreifus dress but the few times that I’ve seen Veep, it hasn’t made me want to watch it all the time, I must be missing something.
