Emory 2017 RD Discussion

I’ve heard a rumor that its almost impossible to get into Emory without visiting, anybody else hear that or is it just my super competitive town?

While Emory does list demonstrated interest as a “strongly considered” factor in admissions, plenty of people got in without visiting. The reality is, it’s extremely expensive for people outside of the Southeast to fly down to visit a school which Emory understands. That being said, if you’re from the Atlanta area or have the ability to visit, you should, if only to ascertain whether Emory is right for you.

Btw, there are plenty of other ways to demonstrate interest. Emory just doesn’t want someone who applies willy nilly to all of the top tier school. They want applicants to want them.

Ugh, I really should’ve visited Emory when they came to my school for an info session…at the time I didn’t go because I didn’t want to miss my Calculus BC class, but looking back I really should’ve shown more interest…

I was worrying about all of my college decisions for schools that I applied to out of state (cause I live in GA and hate it here) when I got an email from Emory saying I was accepted which still felt really awesome. The only reason I got my acceptance early was because they want me to come to this program for african americans/latinos. It said it would be updated on my OPUS next week though.

I went to their visit at my school and at college fairs, hopefully thats enough. did they said when next week OPUS will update?

My D got invited to the same visit program, early admit today. The email letter
just says official decision letter will be available through OPUS later next week.

If you’re Hispanic or African American and weren’t accepted early or invited to the Essence weekend, does that mean you’re not going to be accepted at all to the College of Arts and Sciences?

Didn’t get that either…

Just got into the Essence program! and no I wasn’t able to visit Emory (I live in Boston) but I signed up for their mailing list and I think my supplementary essay definitely showed a lot of interest. Congrats to everyone else who got in, and good luck to those still waiting!

Not African American or Latino but I AM SO SCARED

My D’s Essence letter was in spam folder, even though I check OPUS regularly.
So check those spam folders. You might find it in there.

Could anyone help me? I have a problem with the OPUS account… I’ve taken my NetworkID and password, yet the system insists that my ID and password are faulty. I’ve written an email to OPUS help, but wanted to ask you ask as well whether anyone has come across the same problem…

I got invited to the Essence of Emory program and I am going!!

@iozsan I’m having the same problem…The Network ID and password are all correct, yet the system keeps on saying that it’s invalid…maybe…I am rejected?..

My ID is also not working; tried three times…I think the entire system must be down. Logical indication is that they are updating the decisions to come out very soon!

decisions are out on wednesday. so thats why its prolly down.

i hope so too!
A bit disappointed that I wasn’t able to receive any early RD decision announcement…

What is the Essence program?

@JRswish do you mean by next wednesday? as in 27th?

yes. 10char
