I agree with Motherofmine as far as what Rodney says. Emory is trying to keep diversity at a certain level. They cannot allow students from one geographical area or socioeconomic class to dominate the UG population. I think that they’re trying to draw from more parts of the country, which, unfortunately means some well qualified students will be denied acceptance.

I also agree that the economy is hurting Emory. Because it’s not a school like Harvard or Yale or Princeton or even Vandy or Duke as far as name recognition goes, many people may feel that they would rather go to a state school then spend the 50k a year it costs to attend. I also think that Emory Advantage is going to negate some of this perception over the next few years. As the endowment for the program builds, it will become more prevalent and will pay more generously. That’s basically what all the messages and literature from the administration are telling current students.

Even if applications are down, it could surely be a 1 year thing. Also, many don’t realize that just 4 or 5 years ago, Emory received below 10,000 applications per year. Appx. 13,000 for this year really isn’t that low. Look to the Wheel and Emory Report over the next few weeks. I’m sure there will be some info there. (disclaimer: I am not involved with either)

Ahhh with the newer class profile, my S is falling more in the minority. LOL

Hicks from the sticks - shoot they don’t even list us anymore! ;)

Seriously, the break down from year to year is still similar. Biggest difference is in the asian/asian American/ Pacific Islanders classification and I suspect that difference is mostly from the 8% unclassified the year before; since this past year they added “Asian American” to the classification.

If they are dropping fastapp it’s is probably because they had few admitted applicants who applied through that vehicle. If that is the case, Hilsa, there is no point in celebrating since it means there will be no material effect on selectivity, in terms of the qualifications required for admission.

Could someone just summarize what Rodney is pm-ing? Or could you pm the message to me as well! Why is this so secret? Isn’t the whole idea behind CC sharing information? In this public forum it will either be confirmed or dispelled - come on now out with it.

your all pretty stupid for one, just because the amount of applicants are going down, doesnt mean its ranking is going down, a 10% drop equates to like 1600 applicants, 16k applicants is still a whole lot…? the amount of applicants has nothing to do with the program at all, more kids apply to state schools this year, doesnt mean their program got better…? their ranking will not go down, they rank programs on academics, not on amount of applicants, and if their acceptance rate does increase itll only go up like 2-4% points, itll look like your beloved vanderbilt.

It basically boils down to Rodney’s being told by counselors in NJ/NY that their kids needn’t apply due to Emory’s student body make-up.

No deep dark secrets to be gleamed from his PM. Emory stats are available for anyone to interpret however they will.

I don’t think the few kids from his school not applying is really affecting the application rate at all. But it has fueled a humerous drama to the plot line here. ;)

Well I’m from AZ and am classified as black so I’m not too worried, although a 29 ACT and 3.5ish GPA isn’t good either. Btw I never got that email everyone is buzzing about and my OPUS decision thing is still unavailable D:
