Emory ED1 Class of 2015

Does emory really not defer people?

thats what the guy at the info session i went to said

r we supposed to get emails saying when the decisions will be available?

the anxiety is killing me ><
I dont think we are getting email notices because most colleges dont do it. i’m just waiting until 5.

TJC, does that mean that Emory would not have any defers?
cuz deffer makes things really tricky.
However, are you saying that there were no defer because no one in the college confidential posted that they had received defer?
or was it really proven?

I’ve asked a admission’s counselor at Emory about deferrals, and she said that Emory rarely defer students. So I wouldn’t be surprised if only one person was deferred last year. Honestly I like that, because being deferred would be devastating to the rest of my senior year.

Agreed. While you still have a shot with defferal, it really does suck. No emails yet ah! If you call they will say Dec. 15th - I tried that exact same tactic (don’t know who suggested it in the previous page but doesn’t work haha).

I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get an email tonight - just the mood I’m feeling.

I WANT TO KNOW!

No defer is even good for us isn’t it?!
I learn a lot from this thread for sure.
Thanks!
Anyway, doing the simple math,
if the college does not defer us,
it is either rejet or accept which is 50%
While with the choice of defer, it being 33%.
I just can’t wait till the d-day!!!

Lol I hope you are not thinking like that…if so I would say your chances are closer to 5%! Just kidding. I know you’re hyper and what not…we all are.

But yeah last year Emory deferred 1 kid…I wonder what he had…

50% acceptance but its also 50% deny… i had dreams about this for the past 3 days ><
did anyone else applied to oxford?

20 more min till 5… i hope they post it by them otherwise im probably not gonna sleep good tonight and i have a final tomorrow.

I’ve applied to Oxford, I think I was a pretty good shot for Oxford. Not sure if I’ll attend if accepted though.

emory83, I don’t think decisions are out in 20 minutes, just the letter that let us know when they’ll be out.

Oxford admit stats are much lower right? I think ACT is 25-29. That’s all I remember. If you don’t get into Emory I think you will definitely get into Oxford.

dang it… i have been constantly checking for 2 hours straight…

oxfords is supposedly easier to get into… usually its backdoor to emory and some of those who get in have either parents who work at emory or have some kind of relationship with emory or people who donated major money into emory but state is not as high… is it true that its easier to get in if one parent works at emory?

@TJ, yep. Basically all academic “requirements” are lower. My cousin goes there and he says the atmosphere seems similar to that of Emory’s main campus but just way smaller and isolated. He usually goes to main campus which is 30 miles away on weekends to use their library.

@emory83, the stats probably will show that it’s easier to get into Emory if your parents work there, but I think the “lurking variable” is just the parents raising well-qualified kids. I mean I would expect a professor’s child to be pretty well of academically. Generally speaking…

well its 5 and no word from emory

i went onto opus a second ago, and for a split second i thought something new was coming up under online decision. as you can guess, i freaked out a little bit. then got the same old message.

i guess the release date is really dec 15
