You have a good shot. Solid test scores. Cool volunteer work. Not many ECs though. Legacy always helps. Good luck!

your test scores and gpa are definitely competitive enough for you to be considered by these schools, but nothing about your ecs stands out to me. I think you’ll probably get accepted by northeastern and Emory but Princeton, brown, duke, and Yale are high reaches for you as they are for every competitive applicant. But of course the legacy may give you that extra boost. idk anything about ga tech so I can’t say much there. Best of luck!!!

like they said, EC’s are weak.stats r great tho!
emory: accept (if u show interest)
brown: waitlist/reject (cares sm about Ec)
Princeton: reject
northeastern: accept
duke: waitlist/accept (not sure)
yale: reject
ga tech: idk much about it

@junior111
Emory- Match/ High Match
Brown- High Match/Low Reach
Princeton- High Reach
Northeastern- Safety( Show interest)
Duke- Low Reach/ Reach
Yale- High Reach
Gtech- Safety

Your grades, stats, and Private school helps. However your EC’s are not good.

You are competitive to all the colleges on your list. I do not agree with the comments that your ECs are “not good.” As someone who got into Ivies and a top three school, I guarantee you its not about the quantity of the ECs that get you in but how you connect those ECs to your potential at the PARTICULAR school. BTW STEM is a HUGE advantage at Yale. The school is basically expanding its class size just for stem students.

Northeastern and especially GA Tech are not safeties for anyone.

Your academic qualifications (GPA and test scores) look pretty good. When you say your school “doesn’t do weighted”, do you mean your school doesn’t offer AP classes or do you mean that you would have to self-calculate your W GPA? I would be a bit concerned if it is the former, since AP classes are important for admission into these schools. Additionally, I would suggest you take some SAT II subject tests in Math 2, Biology, and Chemistry to show colleges your interest in these areas. Try to score above 750 (that shouldn’t be a problem for you).

Your ECs look really good, and the only thing that may look a bit off is your focus in the humanities area since you have done a lot of literary ECs (literary magazine editor, poetry, short stories, etc.) I am not sure these particular ECs are super relevant to your intended major, but I do think they make for an excellent topic for college essays + supplements where you can talk about your interest in these areas as well. I think you still have a lot of ECs that show your interest in biology/chemistry so I would not worry about having to be more involved in STEM activities. Your profile looks really good and I think you have a great shot at most of these schools! Good luck! Um what? Your ECs are just fine. Editor, captain, community outreach, semi-professional experience. Plus you’ve got legacy at Yale. If you’ve fallen in love with the idea of Yale, then you should apply SCEA. Forget about this chancing nonsense. No school at or under 25% is a safety. By definition, that means > than 75% of kids get rejected.

Just make sure your essays are eloquent and represent you.

OP is instate for GTech, their instate acceptance rate is 45% and she’s above avg. She is also way above avg for Northeastern whom are score/stat sensitive.

Awesome! You are highly qualified! =D>

Will you apply EA to Yale. I hope so since you’re a legacy.

Attending Northeastern. Your stats are very good for NU. Not quite a safety, would still apply to your state flagship, but NU should be a pretty good bet.
