employer offering group long term care insurance

The policy they were encouraging for federal employees that we investigated would not have had me disqualified for pre-existing conditions, but the salesperson confirmed my understanding/interpretation of the policy & we decided that FOR US, the costs outweighed the benefits for us at that point in our lives. The premiums were pretty high and would have taken a big chunk of our disposable income when we were having to start dealing with college tuitions. Of course, YMMV.

Of our many loved ones and relatives who died over the years, very few of them couldn’t perform their activities of daily living and very few would have qualified for benefits.

We did one of these almost 20 years ago with DH’s employer. Have no idea if we’ll ever need it but by participating early it has been quite inexpensive and an extra layer of security for us. It converts to life insurance if never need longterm care insurance. There’s also a cash value to it at this point that I hadn’t really anticipated . . . so if the cost is not something that will really be felt then I would consider it seriously. But start young vs old.
