Engineering departmental scholarship?

I’m assuming you’re an incoming student, corrrect?
Are you applying for dept. award in Chem or civil? I think some of their scholarships require a separate application. I am hoping an engineering student or parent chimes in on this question, since my D is in COSAM. My response to your question should by no means be considered super accurate. I’m working from some basic info and from how other areas of AU tend to operate (in other words, a little conjecture!)

If we look at just overall averages of last year’s enrolled engineering frosh class, the avg. H.S. gpa was 3.86 and avg. ACT score was 28.5. Since these numbers were basically the middle of the road, then I’m guessing (operative word here is "guess’) it’s going to take 32-33-ish with a 3.9-4.0+ to be awarded money. Were you already awarded one of the general engineering scholarships? That could possibly make a difference as well, meaning that if you had really good scores, but not great 35-36 sort of ACT scores, they may decide to award departmental awards to students who didn’t get a general engineering scholarship. Basically, they like to offer anyone with good stats at least some kind of scholarship. Departmental often get awarded to: 1) those who may not have gotten another type of award, and 2) those who have such superior stats that they warrant additional scholarship funds. You may want to contact or email Mary Lynn Saidla – she coordinates the scholarships for the engineering college. I bet she can answer any questions you may have.
