Engineering Schools in the North East with Merit awards?

SUNYs include some big schools…

Finding large merit scholarships typically means:

  1. Finding colleges that offer large merit scholarships.
  2. Finding which ones of the above the student will be among the stronger admits – i.e. those which would be classified as “likely” or “safety” for admission alone, since then the student would be one that the college may want to attract with a large scholarship.

$30k in the NE.

WVU and URI. Maybe Maine but not large enough.

Why not a SUNY ?? They’re strong.

I can’t think of others to get you there.

For that cost, you need to go South. Or far west.

If Slippery Rock is on your radar I would verify that it’s ABET accredited. It’s a PASSHE school. It would be an option of last resort for engineering IMHO.

I’m assuming he’s a junior? Would Ohio State or Michigan State be out of range geographically? They offer some scholarships.

Slippery Rock University has ABET accreditation in industrial and petroleum engineering.

In the Northeast, maybe some schools like New Jersey Institute of Technology, University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Temple University which have been known to give decent amounts of merit in past years. I’d also think a decent bit abt suny’s like stony brook and buffalo, stony brook especially has a very strong reputation in applied math for example.

If you look more towards the South, there are a lot of options to consider in states like Alabama, Florida, and Texas that could be below 30k with merit while being reputable in stem fields.

Check out Olin College of Engineering in Massachusetts. It uses its huge endowment to award large merit scholarships to all admitted students.

Likewise Cooper Union. Both give half-tuition merit to all admitted students.

But neither has math/physics majors if the student decides against engineering.
