Engineering schools with good merit scholarships?

Can probably get enough money from Clemson to make it close to your in-state costs. Good engineering.

@2muchquan not sure going to Clemson would be better than going to OSU for similar or Alabama for much cheaper though

University of South Carolina offers plenty of merit to out of state students with your stats… http://www.sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/undergraduate_admissions/tuition_scholarships/scholarships/nonresidents/index.php

I’m guessing that you mean Cal Poly SLO. The OOS costs are about $37k, with a lowish transportation estimate…likely based on within Calif travel.

I wouldn’t recommend attending an OOS public where 85% of the students are instate. There isn’t a lot to do on campus. However, you might want to volunteer to build the school’s half of the Rose Parade float.

@mom2collegekids which is still cheaper than say USC with a half tuition scholarship, just a thought

true

Nothing to do at Cal Poly? There is that whole ocean thing going on…

Any other suggestions? It doesn’t have to be free, just some form of decemt merit scholarships

Colorado School of Mines offered D $14k a year merit as an OOS student. They have Harvey Scholars which offers even more in merit. University of Utah offers OOS merit and helps you become a resident for subsequent years after Freshman year. Santa Clara offers merit, but I don’t think enough to meet your parent’s criteria. West Virginia University, University of Kentucky, Montana State, University of South Carolina, Colorado State and Arizona State could be affordable with merit scholarships.

Lots of money in the west. As mentioned above, Utah, NM, Montana will all have good price tags for those scores and grades. Wyoming would be very low for tuition as you’d pay 1.5x instate tuition (about $7000/yr), you’d probably get another $3000 if you are in engineering. Room and board is fairly cheap at about $8500.

What do you want to study? Where do you want to live? Do you want a state school or a private? Many of the smaller engineering schools do give nice tuition breaks.

lol…I guess you’ve never lived near a non-southern Calif beach during the school year. Freezing. Plus, I don’t think a college kid can depend on an entertainment source that is 35 min away

Illinois institute of Technology offers excellent merit scholarships.

Don’t forget South Dakota School of Mines. It’s about $22k for an OOS student and with your Scores you would get an automatic $3k off.

My son had the same ACT score and was awarded $9k per year scholarship which makes it very affordable. It’s also a very good school for Engineering and has great links to industry so Internships and Co Ops are pretty common.

It was one of my sons top picks for a while…( until he visited Bama and the rest is history)

@Britchick1 my sister had the same story with a bunch of other schools haha

We all need to remember SD Mines for those whose budgets are around $25k. Do you know if they will still take applicants and award merit?
