Greetings, book friends, and happy almost new year! Wishing everyone all the best for 2026.

When I wrote to you in October, I hadn’t been reading much because my husband had broken his hip and developed other complications. We were thinking about a possible move to be closer to our DS and DIL.

Since then – we have a new home, three states away from our old one, but only four miles from DS and DIL’s home. We bought it sight unseen, with their advice – and video tours! Turns out it is just right for us. And today I hired an agent to sell the house we left behind us. Life has been a whirlwind, to say the least, but I think it’s down to strong breeze level now … I’ve even had time to read half of The Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell, and the newspaper on most days.

With optimism that I’ll be able to join you for The Ten Thousand Doors of January, I put a hold on it through Libby just now. Six weeks estimated wait time.

And … for those who read Wuthering Heights in book club or elsewhere … here’s an article from The Guardian about a new movie adaptation. “It’s no romcom … “ That’s for sure.

Cheers and hope to see you here in ‘26.

Happy New Year to all! I am enjoying the new selection.

I finished Enlightenment last night and just finished reading the discussion. My overall take: 3 stars on Goodreads. I’d have moments that the novel seemed to soar and then suddenly I’d be confused or annoyed. Basically too much going on with deus ex machina as a major plot device. I’m not sorry I decided to finish it, though, despite all the unrequited love.

I gave up. I read over 1/3 of the book and just felt no connection at all to any of the characters.
