During the freezing process, Equifax didn’t even bother with those security questions to determine that you are indeed you. That’s scary…
@TiggerDad - that’s right, they did not!
IRS and Equifax,
Amazing.
^^I’m just stupefied.
In a somewhat more detailed article, congress is strenuously objecting to this, both R and D.

I didn’t know I’ll ever say this, Thank G, we have a congress. And journalists who dug the info out.
Yeah, Congress earns their kibble once in a while. Betcha some of their data was in that database…
Every little bit helps. I had written off Congress and Press.
I don’t know why the Congress and Press fixiate on berating the CEO. They don’t need to insult anyone. Instead, berespectful and send someone to jail on gross negligence.

I was finally able to verify my enrollment with Trusted ID. Like how long did that take? A month? They didn’t seem surprised about why I called. I chatted with a guy at the bank who had the same problem. It must be widespread.
When I finally did Equifax, it informed me that I already had a block was I sure I wanted a freeze? Heck yes I do.
There have been a few more million people exposed, you might want to check that site again if you were relieved to find you were spared (like my S). This time they say they are sending mail to the affected group.

TrustedIDPremier is also free for everyone now.
I will never trust what they say.
Congress may introduce a bill to safeguard data,
Equifax lost $7M IRS contract.

A question:
My wife and I both froze our credit at all five credit bureaus awhile back. We need to now unfreeze my wife’s credit in order to apply for a new credit card. The question is does she need to unfreeze ALL five bureaus for applying for a credit card or unfreezing just 3 major bureaus good enough?
ASk the card company which one they use and unfreeze only that one.
Well, okay, I called Chase. The answer?
- Apply
- You’ll then be in “Pending” status
- When you’re in that status, you can then call our lending dept. and ask that same question
I said, forget it. I’ll just unfreeze from all five bureaus.
Then you have to pay to refreeze them all though right? Maybe do all the paperwork again?
No thanks.
IMO Chase - and likely most banks - need to get accustomed the new normal - their support of Equifax without concern for security enabled this. I hope they run into this problem constantly now.
Sorry, just still SO disgusted.
