Fake ESA animals, fake disability claims. No one has any morals any more.
Good grief. I was on a bus today, and a large dog sitting in the handicapped passenger seats on my bus attacked a woman that walked in with a small doggie. Yikes. That was probably very emotionally calming.
^^^The article seems to contradict itself at times; sometimes it seems the author doesnāt understand the difference between service animals and ESAs, and then it goes on to say things which imply an understanding of the difference. Weird.
would you point out the contradictions please?
Itās interesting that the airlines can require a letter, less than one year old, from a treating MH professional that requires documentation of how the dog is necesssary for the amelioration of a MH diagnosis for ESAs, but no one can ask someone with a service animal for written documentation. Seems to encourage people to have fake service animals more than fake ESAs.
Per ADA, they can ask what task the animal is trained to perform for the owner but not about the nature of disability. The ADA statute only lists dogs and miniature horses, so a cat or a snake will not be a service animal no matter what. A teacup dog inside a shopping cart is a dead giveaway that it is not doing much to replace the functionality the owner lacks due to their disability. Ditto a dog taking a leak on the floor at Nordstrom.
@BunsenBurner - Iāve seen that same dog in my Nordstrom here in San Diego!
^^And he probably flew between SEA and SAN for free!!!
That was an autocorrect I didnāt catch before my flight took off. It was supposed to say one can only ask what a service dog is trained to do. I just landed after a cross country flight where the guy behind me was doing that very annoying fast leg bouncing thing so hard it made the floor and my seat shake. I turned around a few times to kindly gesture to please stop, but he started right back up again. Iād have taken a dog behind me any day compared to this!!!
I anticipate that some scumbag will figure out they can capitalize on the fact that thereās no national standard for service animals and start their own budget service animal training company, destroying the reputation and diluting the value of legitimate service animals. Someone could easily give dogs minimal training then sell them to people who want to take their pets into hotels and restaurants claiming, with justification, that their pet is a trained service animal.
@sue22, your too late.

Iām relieved that the 3 animals on our 9.5 hour flight were all safely in the cargo hold but feel thatās a really long flight. It was even very long for those of us in the cabin!
I think it is easier for large dogs to hold it longer. Toy dogs are notoriously difficult to housebreak.
If theyāre at least paper trained and have a pad that would help. I just feel thatās a very long flight, especially to be in an unfamiliar area in the dark.
Really! A pig!
Another one?! Wasnāt there a person booted off a plane when their pig crapped all over the seat?
Seriously???
Well, you canāt blame the pig.
Man, I love bacon
Iāll bet that emotional support turkey isnāt flying this time of yearā¦
