errr…mrjr02002, just shut up, you sound like a fool getting so defensive. don’t try to retract your previous idiotic statements by pretending to be all knowledgeable. your immaturity shows in that you attack the PERSON, not the CONCEPT. you can’t stand different opinions from your own. calling us fing idiots and morons will get you nowhere my friend. just take some of that prozac that i sent you and chill out.
the original point of this thread was to ask the risk of using the essay, and i got my answer (ty to the person who said risk/reward analysis). now stop flaming me, cityknight, or anyone else and grow up. i understand you don’t agree with me, and frankly, i don’t care…it’s just political views - i don’t think anyone except you really cares. it’s not a big part of my life, my ideas will probably change anyway, so just stop talking.

1337HAXOR some advice : Go to Vanderbilt get wasted study a little get a great job because your room mates father is rich and you made a ton of connections at the school and give up your life of communism and poverty! and start dating

Me thinks mrjr90210 is that bizbum guy agn being annoying…

and MrRomantic- go annoy the Cornell forum … shooo … n take that rhetoric about Vandy with you …

kjoodles you dont like anybody do you. whoaaaaaaaa I am going man.

this topic is so interesting… well, cuz i’m not applying to Princeton so I dont follow this forum so much…
one of my friends, who is a chinese btw, wrote some political stuffs in his essay to Princeton as well. I have to say, he is the most passionate and the smartest person i’ve ever met. Unfortunately, he was deffered from ED.
Just to let you know, it will be very risky. As you can see people’s reaction on the forum, you can imagine the same reaction from the adcoms who read your essay. THey may have different points of view, some will like and some will not. But isnt it what you try to do is to make them all like you? So, be careful about the way you say it!!!

guys, if you haven’t already, read Atlas Shrugged (I’m assuming mrjr90210 have, since he’s so convinced that capitalism is good, it is in some ways).

are you seriously a communist? go take an econ class please

Well, it easy to see why they might not like a communist. Just make sure to say that you’ll respect everyone else’s viewpoints. Just remember that princeton says its in the “service of the nation”

Also don’t praise stalin or Mao or anything. that definitly won’t go over well

I love capitalism!

Honestly, in an interview, unless you are very eloquent and articulate, mention of being communist may hurt your chances. If you can write in a compelling way about how being communist has shaped your own UNIQUE circumstances, than it stands a chance at being an excellent admissions essay. I’m sure you’ll be the only one (if not one of VERY FEW) to write about being communist. Just try to be unique. I believe, contrary to many others’ opinions, that it would go very well in the “unofficial motto” essay, if you write it carefully. Think carefully about what communism means to you, and what it means to society, and incorporate that into your essay. The key word is “carefully.” You never know who will be on the other side reading your essay. You do however have slightly more lee-way in the essay than you would in an actual personal interview. If you’re a strong writer and communism is really an aspect of your life that defines your character - then go for it! Just be careful… my 2 cents! Good luck! :)

At the very least, we can all be reasonably sure that after 4 years of Princeton, home of Krugman, neo-Keynesianism, and the capitalistic establishment, the “communist” guy will be securely pro-free market.

you know, pton is actually quite liberal
but a lot of ppl dont know that

lol thank you everyone for your opinions! I decided to go for it and write my essay, please PM me if you would like to read it. Just a warning, I wrote it last minute in (seriously) 15-20 minutes so english etc is not the greatest. However, Princeton seems to like imperfection in their apps for some reason.

Equality for all!

princeton is into perfection on essays its stanford that isnt…duhhhh.
also send me a copy i want to read this i might convert if i have enough to drink while im reading it. i hope you get in anyway shake things up there. if not apply to vandy they would love a communist in nashville…

is a Princeton graduate?

Hard Headed Nader No Way! Noooooooooooo Way. He Looks Like An Mit Geek

I wrote mine on John Paul II’s “Do not be afraid open wide the doors of Jesus Christ” and I got in. Dont I feel conservative. Hehe.

How do you tell a Communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.
-Reagan

conservative? i wrote my commonapp essay on sex and condoms

Don’t write about your communist/anarchist affiliation.

You’ll seem like you’re trying too hard to be provocative - and you’ll come off as whiny when you talk about your ‘conservative’ community.

And it also reveals your ignorance about politics and economics.
