Ethics Essay Award

Vice Admiral William P. Lawrence Ethics Award

Each semester 3/C Midshipmen take a core course in Ethics. As part of this course they write and submit a paper on a subject of their own choosing regarding Ethics (aprox. 500 Midshipmen each semester). As a part of the Stockdale Center the class of “81” has endowed and awards a stipend for the “best” essay submitted each semester of 3/c year. Course Instructors review the submitted essays and those chosen by the Instructors as the “best” are reffered to a nonpartisan review pannel. Finalists (usually about four or six) are invited to a dinner with the Superintendent and invited guests. At the dinner the winner of the Vice Admiral William P. Lawrence Ethics award is announced. They have to give an acceptance speech which might be worse than writing the paper. Next Dinner February 17, 2009.
