Haven’t taken it, but just looked it up.

The lab that it offers isn’t what most would consider to be a “lab” - it’s not like Gen Chem Lab, for example. It seems quite laid back and not stressful, and probably has 0 to minimal work outside of seminar/lab time. It’s essentially just a way for students to have an easy-in to working in a lab on campus, so it’s a great opportunity.

So 1 credit for 5 hours (the 4 hours in “lab” + 1 in seminar) doesn’t really seem all that bad, imo.

For reference, Gen Chem Lab is the same time commitment essentially, and is only 2 credits. I can almost guarantee you that your daughter will spend more than twice the amount of time prepping & studying for Kit Mao’s class than she will spend to meet the minimum req’s for Eureka!

Side note: just looked up Gen Chem’s hours. Man it’s gotten weak since I took it. Looks like it’s now 3 hours rather than 4 so that they can fit in 3 sessions a day? I wonder if 151 is back to meeting every week again (boy was I annoyed when in the year or two after I took it they switched it to every-other just because of high enrollment…). Oh well.
