How was the trip?

POSTAGE - In Spain postage was only 0.85 euro. We bought the stamps in a grocery store. It took about a week to get to Colorado. Italy was more expensive - $2.50 each from cruise ship. In France we mailed 11 postcards at a post office for under 10 euro.

Yeah, colorado_mom, tell us about the trip! Or do you have it on your other thread somewhere?

postcards… my wife is still working on them. We bought a few + stamps at the Vatican to get that special postmark. Turns out you can mail them anywhere in Rome with the Vatican stamp and they route them through the Vatican for the postmark.

Our Europe trip/cruise was FANTASTIC! We had to make some minor compromises on scheduling since using frequent flier miles, and the 3-leg trip resulted in lost luggage. But our bags made it to the ship, and all was “smooth sailing” after that.

I’ll add more details in this thread.

I love receiving postcards! Glad the trip was a sailing success. Weather is hotting up. Here’s to the summer and trips of some variety for all.

So true. I still have postcards I received 30 years ago, and I haven’t kept them all this time because of the standard-issue photo on the front, or even the handwritten note on the back. It’s all about the postmark and the stamp.

I confess that sending postcards is an unpleasant chore for me, so I get it over with on the first day if I can. Plus, the recipient stands a chance of getting it before I return.

I like getting the postcards done early too. But our luggage (including address stickers) was lost, so I was initially only able to do the 5 that I remembered addresses. That’s ok - some of those were to family that would get more than one.

I’m actually kicking myself for not purchasing a 2nd pack of 20 for a euro in Rome. We’ve kept most for our own photo collection. It would have been great to use them for writing to my pen pal niece who had requested a postcard. (She and her family got 3.)

Along the way we bought many postcards to keep for ourselves. We made a nice collage in a 24X36 poster frame to hang in the kitchen.

The framed collage includes postcards, photos, tickets etc. In the center we included a picture (actually website printout) of the cruise ships and a cruise itinerary with map. Then we arranged it all with port cities approximating the counterclockwise cruise circuit. It makes a fun memory.

A friend told me about an iPad app. You choose pics from your library and you then send cards with them to friends. I wonder if youncan take pics with an IPhone and then do this. Postage would be from
The U. S.

Our framed postcard/etc collage has been a nice memory of a great trip.

Here’s another fun idea - I bought a large handled baskest at the thrift store for the other “stuff” (brochures, maps, musuem books etc). It is in the kitchen too, ready for us to show to guests or review at leisure.

Someday I’ll do a photo album too, including some of the basket stuff. Just waiting for DH to pick more of his photos for printing. (I just printed a sampling of 100, from his 2000 shots.)
