Ever used Roundup?

Yes for one variety of Roundup. I think it was purple color label. Not totally sure. One year I sprayed it to kill Less Celadine and nothing grew that year or maybe even the following year.

My neighbor said she bought something called Roundup 365 and it did indeed keep her weeds away so far all summer. One other thing my sister in law got me to do it to get heavy black plastic, lay it over the area and bury the edges of it (to lock it in place). If you round up the area and then cover it with the black plastic and leave it for a year nothing will live. She mailed me a remnant of a black silo bag (for farm silage) to use - she uses it on her gardens and it can stay put for years and years.

I’m getting mad at a few invasive plants in our yard, just reading this thread! Grrrrr…

Roundup 365 lasted about 60 days for me on driveway grass. Clearly, ymmv!

There is a herbicide called Ground Clear that kills nearly everything and makes the area un-plantable for about 1-yr. I’ve tried it, Roundup, 365, and the poison ivy killer on the tall ruellias / Mexican petunia to no avail. Round Up just made it shoot seeds like bb’s. Hate, hate, hate that invasive plant. I rue the day I got ONE from my friend.

We’ve been fighting Creeping Charlie for a few years. It’s almost impossible (well so far it IS impossible) to get rid of completely.

Blackberries, butterfly bushes, and English ivy are the main invaders here in my neck of the woods. Oh and scotch broom - that thing is so disgusting.

I’m so happy to have allies in the fight!

I was afraid that I would be greeted by a chorus of “How COULD you!”

Wasn’t there a very recent thread on the stuff?

How COULD you?

I flip the battery control to “on”, extend the spray handle, adjust the stream to wide or narrow spray as required, then push the button. Repeat as needed.

Creeping Charlie and mulberry plants can be real nemesis! Roundup won’t kill mulberry plants. I amend my earlier post–that is the one thing I have that Roundup won’t kill. It takes clipping the stalk low and using Tordan. Brush killer would probably work too.

I had an encounter with a vine that I let takeover an old wooden swingset. OMG–those things are awful! It took H hours with a sawzall to get rid of it.

I’m reading this thread with great interest! I have weeds poking their heads up through the mulch. Is it reasonable to apply Roundup to those weeds and just let them die?

Yup. Give it a shot.

It’s amazing how every part of the country has some invasive nuisance plant that needs controlling. I’ve never heard of some of these but I’ll be watching out!

It is amazing that some people would spread these plants knowingly. Mr B had a visitor from overseas, and the person went bananas about scotch broom! Wanted to take seeds to plant at their property.

One year we planted Morning Glory around our chicken coop. It did look beautiful when all the purple flowers were blooming. But (!), oh my, it pops up everywhere now. Big mistake.

For weeds growing up in the driveway cracks, with no “good” plants nearby, we use a homemade formula. One gallon white vinegar plus one cup salt, plus one tablespoon Dawn dish soap.

I saw one for sale at my local nursery! I bet they are charging $12.95, the standard price for their gallon pot. Somer of our invasives came that way, too. Now I am very careful of planting foreign species.

Did anyone mention grape vine yet? Grrrrr…

Best way to eradicate weeds growing in driveway cracks or between stepping stones: flame thrower or a propane torch. It kills the leaves and burns whatever seeds the weeds had a chance to drop.
