Every Parent's Nightmare

There is also an older woman from Noblesville missing so it could be her body they found in the creek.

I so hope the body found is not Lauren Spierers. I can’t imagine the horror her parents are going through. Lauren and her parents are in my prayers.

I kinda wonder if this discovery, even if it is LS, could be a relief. LS’s parents have already thought the worst by now, no doubt, but they need some answers and some closure. The body won’t give them any clear answers of who is responsible, but it will help in the investigation of what happened.

it’s not her…

[Coroner: Body found in Indy not Lauren Spierer](http://www.wishtv.com/dpp/news/local/marion_county/coroner-body-found-in-indy-not-lauren-spierer)

She was, of course, someone’s daughter and may have been lost to her family recently or in the past. We mourn for all of the lost children, and as parents of daughters we fear for the safety of our own.

It is because we have come to know Lauren and her family these past few weeks that we are able to identify more closely with them. Through photographs we have an image of a beautiful young woman, and we can imagine our daughters in her situation, but we cannot really know the depths of worry, anxiety, and despair that they are experiencing, and we hope we never have to. May God give them courage and, in good time, comfort.

Amen, Irishdoctor.

So Lauren is missing and a 74 year old woman is missing and now they have found the body of this black woman. Three woman missing or dead all in relatively close proximity. I wonder if the police are investigating the possibility of a serial killer? The body just found was of another missing young woman yet we have heard nothing of her in the news. I can’t imagine being the parent of a missing daughter who is not making the headlines in hopes of the police or a ny one finding her, while another missing girl is making the headlines. Was there a search party and search for this other woman? God help these parents…it is just terribly sad.

I just made a comment to my D (who sent me the link) that there seem to be alot of missing people in Indiana right now, but I imagine one would find that anywhere…

momma-three: actually the woman found was discussed last week online in other forums…

^ I had not heard it on the news or read anything about her. When someone is missing it should be all over the news and their pictures should be out there for all to see just in case they have been abducted and brought to another state or country. Would the news really be that full of missing people if this were done?
As a mom (as a human being) these missing girls make my stomach turn.

^^ actually, the young woman found (I think) was not a college student but rather a married woman who didn’t go missing for long…I think it was a few days but I’m not totally sure; I just remember seeing it online…

agree with you though about spreading news when these things happen…

I missed that discussion. Who was found? I didn’t know they had identified her yet.

^no idea if it’s the same person, but there was an Afr-American woman missing in Ohio last week; no idea if it’s the same one, but description is the same…I can’t find the article now…

Thousands of people go missing every day. 2000 children are reported missing every day (and those are 2002 stats - they’re probably higher now). Granted, many of these are custodial kidnappings or runaways, but still…

The answer isn’t something exotic like serial killers. The real nightmare is that this kind of thing happens so frequently that, usually, it’s no big deal - unless it happens to you or your family.

Here’s an interesting article on the Spierer case. There seem to be some odd gaps in the police investigation, according to this writer.

[Silence fuels speculation in case of missing student - USATODAY.com](http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2011-07-02-missing-student-lauren-spierer_n.htm?csp=obnetwork)

I would like to think that they already knew the location of the purse and keys when they collected them. Possibly the exact measurements from a street to whatever were not necessary but it could have provided clues if a car was involved or she was escorted away. The woman who found the keys was not interviewed (not sure why or if that would have given them any info) I would also like to think they combed through that whole area looking for some type of evidence such as threads or buttons or whatever they could find. I’m not sure I believe that they haven’t combed through every inch of possible space that Lauren walked through and more. The search party thing is interesting…I can understand the desire to take control and get as many people out there as possible looking for her, but it is probable that in doing so, they have contaminated the crime scene. In their desperation I could understand her parents involvement in doing this, and keeping her name and picture out there as long as possible.

Hopefully the parents have a shred of strength left to get through whatever comes next. Not knowing where your child is has to be harder than the closure of knowing her body has been found. As a parent the thoughts of what has or is being done to her, if she is alive, has to be killing them.

Any news at all?

Nothing – oddly quiet – no press conferences, no more searches. I don’t want this to fade away. Someone has to know something about what happened to her, and they’re not coming forward.

Are the parents still in Bloomington?

Parents are still in Bloomington; held a walk last weekend thanking all the volunteers who helped in the search…

It won’t fade away; Indiana students return in a little over a month; will be interesting to see who doesn’t…

I met with someone yesterday from IU staff. Nothing new on the case.

So sad, our world today is a scary place for the vulnerable.
