Everyday Dishes -- Suggestions?

That’s odd…I just did a google search www.dansk.com and the website popped right up! Is it under new management?

Dansk was bought by Lenox many years ago - maybe even a decade ago. I think they still manufacture some of the classic designs.

After 25 years of Pfaltzgraf, I bought trendy Corelle-like stuff from Target. Well, it didn’t survive 6 years of the microwave and dishwasher, so I just recently purchased Noritake colorwave square in turquoise, apple, and orange. They can look casual or more formal depending on the placemats, napkins, centerpieces.

So far we love the dishes! Great in microwave and dishwasher, no chips, and supposedly can even go into the oven! Plus Noritake gives a guarantee against breakage and will replace pieces for 50% of cost if you register your place settings. Hope I don’t have to collect.

Not helpful since you have to find the right craft fair or order, but a few years a go we got these and I am still happy. [kscopepottery.com - Home](http://www.kscopepottery.com/)

LasMa, I’m not sure if you found what you were looking for, but I thought of this thread when I was at Costco today. They have a bone china everyday dishes set for $100 which is a bargain compared to buying it directly from Mikasa at $250:

[Buy Lucerne White 20 Piece Dinnerware Set with Bread and Butter Plate online at Mikasa.com](http://www.mikasa.com/20-Piece-Dinnerware-Set-with-Bread-and-Butter-Plate/K5107121,default,pd.html)

Not to mention, the set at Costco is 37 pieces - 6 piece/6 person place setting and a vegetable bowl (retails for $57). It is a very simple, yet elegant design and only slightly heavier than Corelle. I had to refrain from buying it myself since the set I have suits us just fine.

^^post #19, collage1: Yikes. I would be disappointed too if the stuff I bought from IKEA had chips. We’ve had our casual dinnerware from them for a few years now and they look as new as the day we purchased them. I love them, they are “thinner” than the real heavy stuff today and can easily stack in the dishwasher. But not so thin that they would chip. I have two styles of bowls, one flat like for soup and one rounder like for cereals and they have held up really, really well.

I have seen those Noritaki colorwave and they look real nice too.
Good luck on your search OP! :)

I have this and I absolutely love it. It seems indestructable, but haven’t actually tested that theory.

I absolutely love my Corelle. It was a housewarming gift from my mom and something I had missed ever since leaving the nest.

If you really want stonewear go check out all of your local Goodwills and Salvation Armies. I see full sets in perfect condition there all the time, with all sorts of varying patterns and styles.

In 1984 my grandmother brought me to Caldor to pick out an engagement gift. I picked 2 sets of Corelle, with maroon print border. Some of you probably have the same pattern  It goes great with my collection of Corelle French White casserole dishes.

Over the years we’ve broken only a few. But I’ve expanded with lots more pieces from outlet store and thrift shops, mostly in plain white frost. I never liked the cereal bowls because they take up a lot of dishwasher space. So I’ve added more shallow bowls.

Tip - Think about whether you prefer mugs (my choice) or cups/saucers.

If you want something truly durable, go to a restaurant supply store. You will see mostly classic white. I collect old diner ware for use in my kitchen and you can never chip it. It will only break if dropped directly on a hard surface. Love it. Anything from restaurant supply is good for while your children are still in that long clumsy stage - the one I’m still in!
