Exercise Doesn't Help Us Lose Pounds

People of normal weight NEVER FINISH AMERICAN SIZE MEALS. If people like that go out on a regular basis, they order one entry for 2 people and ask for a second empty plate. They do not go to places that discourage this type of order. … Or just skip going out completely,… or go for sushi when you can create your own customized order. My preference is the last, and it is not as expensive as you might think. I order 8 peices of salmon sushi for $1.95 / piece. It comes with soup, salad and ice cream. And I would eat less the next day.

When I go out, I just bring a substantial part of the meal home - it usual gives us at least one, sometimes two more meals depending on where we’ve gone.

MiamiDAP: Bingo.

I never do, but my husband does eat those big meals whenever offered (what, like he’s starving or can’t afford to leave food on the plate?) and he weighs a lot more than he should.

^^^Mommusic, ditto in my house. DH eats it all and then some (hey! It’s a celebration!) and weighs about 50 pounds more than when we married.

coureur post #164- It’s a Small World has reopened and been retrofitted for larger Americans behinds and additional weight.

Humans seem to be programmed to eat some things (fats, sugar, chocolate) when they are available, without stopping to think at all.

Ooh, look, brownies!

You can eat whatever, Harvard study concluded that the best diet is “Eat less diet” I have chocolate for breakfast every single day, then add more to my coffee along with honey. Does not affect weight, just makes me happy for the rest of the day. Energy in = energy out formula to maintain the same weight will work for everybody. Do adjustments, if you need loose or gain. Pretty simple, no reason for confusion.

DH eats every bite he gets in a restaurant, and if I have leftovers that I haven’t specified “I am bringing this home for lunch tomorrow” he will eat my food as well. And he weighs the same or less than he did at age 21! The man has a 30 inch waist! It’s not fair!

But… he can do that because 90% of the time he doesn’t eat much. Yogurt and a piece of fruit for breakfast. Salad with some meat on top for lunch. Whatever I make (I cook low-fat) for dinner. Virtually never eats snacks or dessert, even though he works from home and has unlimited access to the fridge and cabinets. AND he works out - runs, lifts weights, etc.

I like chubby guys, I think Bob Hoskins is the sexy but H is more the sinewy type.
He doesn’t eat that much, when I make big meals he doesn’t eat the leftovers ( so guess who is tempted to?)

He also still smokes although he has had varying degrees of success at quitting for periods of time, but I know it kills his appetite.

Luckily I am usually disgusted by brownies and other rich treats ( I used to stick fudge in my great aunt’s sofa cushions because she wouldn’t take no for an answer and I didn’t know where else to put it) :o
Except for before my period- then it isn’t in the house anyway so it isnt hard to resist it.

^^^Another advantage to menopause. No more fluctuations.

Ooh, I had forgotten about those “fluctuations”!

Not a problem for me until a couple years before menopause. I would be late, retain water greatly, and wonder why I had gained 6 lbs! After a day or so I knew, but it was SO annoying to be larger and feel pregnant when I knew I wasn’t!

Lafalum, are we married to the same man?? When we were first dating, my H would casually start eating off my plate after he had finished with his. Back then I had the habit of saving my favorite part of the meal until last and I’ll never forget looking at my plate only to realize that he had eaten the choice morsel I had been saving! I have since learned to eat “defensively”. And drat that man, he doesn’t weigh a pound more now than when I first met him.

Went out to dinner and a movie with some lady friends last night. I ordered the lasagna. The thing was sooooooo big that I ate, literally, one quarter of it. Brought the rest home. I think I can feed a family of four for a few weeks with what’s left.

Not if they’re midgets, no, but in my family, in which I’m “the runt of the litter” because I’m “only” 5’10", there are definitely people of normal weight who finish “American size [sic]meals.”

Short people are so amusing sometimes!  :D

Mmmmmmm, brownies!

“Eat real food, not too much, mostly plants.
____________^^^^^^^^ This appears to be the hard part for many people.”

Whaddaya talk’n about? Good plant food is available EVERYWHERE. Just look at this food service menu for Yankee Stadium. There’s LOTS of plants there … let’s see, french fries, onion rings, coffee, lemonade and there, there SUSHI !!!

A few years ago, when DD went to China with a group of HS kids, she discovered the ugly truth about American food portions. D and a couple of her friends, hungry for familiar food after eating Chinese for 10 days, stopped at a Pizza Hut. The girls decided that a “medium” pizza would be just fine for the three of them. To their huge surprise, the pizza that they got was smaller than a personal pizza one would get in the US!

One of the biggest “offenders” when it comes to portion sizes is Claim Jumper. If you ever decide to eat there, be warned - the food is good, but there is sooo much of it!

I was at London’s Heathrow airport recently and was shocked to see so much healthy food. There was a choice of sprouted salads, a super food assortment, smoked fish…it went on and on. I never associated the Brits with healthy food but this sure made travel better than the McDonalds and Cinnabons in our airports.

In the Sea-Tac airport we have healthy food- or if you pick carefully you can.
I suppose it is just like anything they sell what people are buying and it is often representative of the area.
In the northwest, we have seafood, Asian cuisine and coffee. ;)

164 – hadn’t realized that. LOL. It’s not a small world after all, anymore . . .

Well today I ache in parts of my body I didnt know I had.

Yesterday mutlitple trips up and down stairs starting at 7 in morning to load car. Leave at 1 to drive.

Today - Multiple multiple trips up to Ds 2nd floor room, carrying stuff. Starting at 7:30, finish about 1. Have 2 pieces of chicken then run for books, etc etc.

Hope the scale says I’m a loser.
