^I have read about her before, she started body building at 72, I believe.

I would focus more on average person. I have been exercising reasonably for last 25 years with great fluctuations in my weight during that period, that lately seemed to settle down to normal range without much change in life style. I used to be crazy about it, following diets, counting calories. I do not need to do it any more. I overeat on vacation with the gain of about 10 lbs, so what? Once I start eating my normal diet back home, weight goes down. So, it looks that level of hormones is important, I am too lazy to investigate.

There is also another Grandma bodybuilder, Kelly Nelson, who is late 70’s. She has the extreme bodybuilder look that I find extremely scary looking. Howevers, we don’t have to be bodybuilders, but we can do strength training to maintain or even build muscle into our old age. Being fit and strong will go a long way towards keeping us healthy and independent for as long as possible. Plus you will just feel better in general, without the typical aches and pains and lack of mobility many elderly experience.

I would love to be more active- but pain from osteoporosis & arthritis really slows me down. Unfortunately, I can distract myself into ignoring it and get way too involved in what I am doing- but then I pay the piper for the next three days.

EK…have you ever heard of zyflamed? I have a friend who says it really reduces her pain. Dr Weil likes the stuff… and it seems safe…check it out.
Good to hear that weight might get easier to manage once the hormones leave the picture. Not the case right now for me…in fact, it’s really the opposite. Based on my family history, this might go on for a while. Still planning for those choc cookies in my future!

When I have pain, I avoid movements that cause me to feel it. My pains usually go away in a summer, while I swim. Sometime it takes few summers. But I do not engage in strenious activities, just weight training / brisk walking / rollerblading / swimming, nothing at “sporty” level, just recreational enjoyable.
