<p>3bm103, of course we can generalize. Young men are terrible drivers. Any insurance actuary will tell you that. Does not mean that every single one is terrible, and that every female is a terrific driver. It’s just that the odds are that way. So it is with ADD. It makes sense that those with ADD are going to have more problems. Throw in those male hormones in overdrive, and your odds for trouble go up. But that does not mean every single kid. Also for those kids who are going through puberty, there are often dosage changes these years, and some of those meds can make the kids sleepy which is not good, or not have the control the old doses had. It is a dicey time in life thrown in with inexperience behind the wheel.</p>

<p>I find this perspective helpful…my 17 y.o. d has add, and is becoming an overall good driver, (permit only) but she does miss things that could be very dangerous, ie. turning left, not always realizing she needs to check for oncoming cars, driving faster than should at times–I think likes the movement and spaces out a tiny bit. So I am a reminder in those situations to help that groove in her brain get deeper… I made decision she couldn’t get license til these skills, awareness develop/ improves, but am okay with her driving with her permit with me. She understands and actually feels supported by this delay. My s got license at 16 (no add) and is a good and careful driver. We should support each other as parents to give these privileges when our own indl child is actually ready for it…that’s our job to know that…</p>
<p>It would be great if public transportation was a viable option in all parts of the country. Son has ADD…he’s an okay driver but if was up to him, he wouldn’t drive. Our neighbor boy is an albino with some pretty serious vision problems. His mom was concerned that he wouldn’t be allowed to drive but he got his permit and I’ve seen him driving around. YIKES!</p>
