example, MIT requires 2 years, Stanford 3 years, and Harvard recommends 4 years (all in high school).

Harvard’s recommendation is 4 years in HS or completing level 4. Many colleges are similar.

Whether this applies to the OP, IDK, since AP German is typically taken after German 3 or 4, not after German 7.
