I did the Grocery game for a few years. I gained 20 lbs. Not worth the thousands I “saved”. I will say, however, that there are some great bargains to be had in the Health and Beauty, and paper goods aisles. If I could discipline myself to pass by the chips/cookies/processed food/crap, I might be convinced to try it again. I didn’t pay for shampoo, cleaning items, or paper goods for three years, and had a big stockpile of the items. I just recently (three years later) finished up my supply of windex.

One of my networking groups just brought someone in to do a couponing class for us. They offer a service $5/month where they will match the coupons with the sales. It is Michigan based. If anyone here is from Michigan, send me a PM and I will get the info to you.

I can’t see myself going as far as most of these ladies do, but since I have 2 months free right now, I will check it out each week to see if I can get myself at least $5 a week in savings.

For me, I think the Walgreen’s and RiteAid matching will be most valuable - for things like health and beauty products. I am guessing I can also save on cereal…since we do eat a lot of that, as well.

I can see how you can save quite a bit of money, though, especially if you live near a store that doubles coupons.

My friend posted again.

2 * Qtips
4 * Air wick motion kits
3 * Nivea women’s body wash
1 * Goody headband
Total $75.60, paid $4.31 cash

Well, those aren’t my kind of products. But I can’t deny that she shopped in moderation and made out like a bandit. And all without going near the junk/processed foods.

Caught an episode of this last night, purely by chance. There was a set a twin adult women who were dressed exactly alike, from hairstyle to jewelry, except for the color of their shirts, and if that wasn’t creepy enough they were celebrating their birthday by supermarket shopping. They argued over how many porkchops to buy. One had stockpiled diapers even though she had no kids. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

This is really creepy… Anyone else getting coupon ads?! I see a $1.50 off some detergent. LOL.

Apparently my brother was on the show last week. He is a Safeway store manager. I need to catch the re-runs tomorrow night, I guess.

What are Air Wick motion kits?

I saw a Today Show piece on this. The arrangements of stockpiled food struck me as almost art-like. Not that I don’t find this shopping/hoarding behavior disturbing.

Sorry - I know that “almost art-like” is a strange expression, but I did see a certain strange beauty in some of those carefully arranged shelves.

I have saved over $400 in 2011 by using coupons and my shopper card. No huge stockpile, unless you could the 3 tubes of toothpaste in the linen closet. Oh - and the papertowels in the trunk of my car. I’m just using the sale ad and coupons from the newspaper. Shopping at one store most of the time.

Just saw the show last night. Maybe I missed something, but are you saving money when you have to add a warehouse to your home to store all this? Is the couple that took all of a store’s stock of deodorant sticks, two shopping carts full “because it’s free” donating to a food pantry?
