Eye glasses styles - what's in these days?

My lenses are complicated. Do the Costco glasses handle progressives with distance correction and astigmatism correction? (Why yes I do have double vision in each eye.) How much would such lenses cost?

@CountingDown

What are prisms?

Here’s a brief description – I have double vision, where my eyes don’t converge. When I read, one line looks like two, and they aren’t right underneath each other, either – so I have prisms to correct both the vertical and horizontal divergences.

I was never able to wear really small lenses because there are so many corrections going on.

Prisms mitigate double vision. I know this because when I told my eye doctor that I have to close one eye in order to read she told me I needed prism in my readers.

I try to be as young and hip as I can and I am quite happy, thank you very much.

@1214mom …i wore my wireless frames forever, as I just wore them at home, after taking off my contacts. I didn’t want to spend the money just for that. Now, I need my glasses to see those teeny, tiny numbers at my new job. A workplace with lots of people 30 years younger. I felt so old in my glasses, thatsvwhen I decided to break down, spend the money and look more current. I also am traveling alot more and wear my glasses during the day, so i can put my contacts in for the evening. I feel more stylish out and about on vacation. I’m so glad I bought them. I get lots of compliments. It took me awhile to find them. I had them measure me, so I knew what to look for, also. I also broke down and got some prescription Ray Bans…progressives. worth every penny.

Zenni has 20% off today which is great because they have very few sales. For just over $100 I got 2 pairs of lineless bifocals in fun colors plus a pair of bifocal sunglasses. Great way to try out some new styles without breaking the bank. They don’t have to be perfect at this price. If you find a style you like, you can try to match it at your usual place. You can upload your photo and “try on” glasses. It’s important to measure the width and frame height of your favorite glasses to get something close.

I just bought 2 pair yesterday. One is progressive, one is for the computer and close reading. $1,000 later - yikes, sucks getting old.

I’m blonde, fair skin, bright blue eyes. Every colored pair, especially the teal ones were too much. I ended up with the every day pair being metal with a reddish frame, and the computer ones were grayish/clear plastic. I think it’s more about what looks good on you, not necessarily what’s in style. After reading this I just hope that they’re stylish enough to not date me, but flattering enough to not think gee, what was she thinking with that? They seemed to honestly assess how they looked on me yesterday.

These are my first progressives. I had lasik years ago and had a few glorious years. I can stumble around okay in the house without them as long as I don’t need to see clearly, but even now I’m struggling to see the computer in front of me.

It’s interesting to read our various perspectives. I’ve spent lots of money on glasses too, mostly for vanity reasons. I wear progressives, but my vision is not bad with no glasses, and I can easily read for pleasure with no glasses. I need them for driving, or watching television farish away, for sure, and I wear them every day, at work. I can read the computer or regular documents easily without glasses. At home I usually go without glasses. But, given I keep my glasses for 3 years or longer, I don’t feel bad spending a fair amount of money to get what I like/think looks good on me. It’s just figuring out what that is, now that wrinkles and sagging are setting in.

I wear prescription sunglasses, So now I am searching for the new pair of glasses. Visiting at the physical stores I did not found any glasses, So now i am planning to buy wholesale sunglasses from some online stores.

My husband thought all the prescription sunglass frames looked too large and like what elderly people wear after surgery.

Instead, he got the Nike frames linked above but with prescription sunglass-type lenses. Now he looks cool riding his bike.

If your are in the Boston area and want some stylish frames that go well with your face fit by a stylist, check out EyeLook in Lexington. Be prepared for lots of compliments when you go out in them and (less $$$$ in your wallet)

My son has prismatic lenses. One optometrist didn’t notice for years but a better one did and it’s helped a lot. Without the prisms he gets dizzy.

Glasses are one of the things I’m quite willing to spend money on. They’re the only part of my face that I get to choose, and I usually keep a pair for two or three years. I get new prescription sunglasses, too, every time my prescription changes.

Right now, I miss my prescription sunglasses more than I would miss most human beings in my life. My car is in the shop, and I accidentally left the sunglasses in the car. :frowning: I may not get either of them (the sunglasses or the car) back until Monday.

I’ve figured out I really need the adjustable nose pieces to be comfortable with glasses I’m going to wear every day. I have found a brand - OVVO, that I really like a couple styles of. They are boring, but comfortable and indestructible. They are not cheap though. I’m narrowing in on what I like and don’t like, so that’s good.

I was all ready to get some tortoise shell glasses, but my husband hates them. My friends and I think they look really good, but he’s got to look at me the most, so I guess his opinion counts extra. Darn… looks like OVVOs or siloettes will be the choice, and I will continue to not be particularly stylish.

I just ordered my new post cararact glasses on Wednesday. I love what I picked out. They are actually a black fram on the outside, but not very thick. The inside is a teal blue/green…which no one can really see…unless they look very carefully. I love them. They are progressives with no correction for reading at the bottom. They have Quazel coating, progressive lenses, ultra light weight…and the frames are Kate Spade, I think. I got them at the eye place in the optometrist Office because they are terrific there. $306 because Medicare paid the rest. (Post cataract they have an allowance for new glasses)

This thread made me laugh…I’m going to get a cheap pair of rimless glasses…single vision for distance…as really I can read fine. I’ll get those either online or at Costco…or someplace cheap.

@1214mom …can you get a cheaper pair of the frames you like and wear them when you are not around him. I have silloutees that I find extremely comfortable with the nosepiece. I wear those at home all the time. But I bought the i style tortoise, and wear those when I go out or sometimes just when DH is home, as he likes those better.

Look at the “Salt Optics” as they are trendy and very comfortable. Five out of six in our family now wear these. No one has had a single problem with them compared to some others we have bought in the past.
