Facebook - are you signing up?

Twitter seems a little creepy to me. I was on it one day posted 3 things and got “Friended-or whatever they call it” by a gorgeous young female with a saucy message. Eww, kind of like myspace where strangers know you. Hate it. LOVE facebook though :)

OK, so I know ds’s password and could spy on him at any time. But if I logged on all his friends would think he was on and try to engage me in conversation. Then what???!!! That’s the main reason I haven’t snooped on his page.

I joined reluctantly because my college roommate who lives in CA kept bugging me. But now am so glad I did!

I have found, or been found, by tons of old highschool and college friends!! It has been a blast. We have set up some get togethers and had so much fun catching up.

My kids and many of their friends have friended me (which I was surprised about), but it is fun to get posts from them as well.

I was on a bunch when I joined, but now only respond when I get emailed or notified on my blackberry.

My college freshman D suggested I join. In fact she set it up for me. Subsequently her boyfriend and two of her good friends “friended” me. I don’t write on their walls, but sometimes send them a private message…wishing them a happy birthday and the like.
There are surprises, I was “found” by my best friend in high school from eons ago when I lived on another continent. Now we keep in touch. Same with a couple of old college friends.

I think Twitter is very misunderstood, and probably misused by many. It serves a great purpose if used properly. It is NOT for letting everyone know you are about to get a cup of coffee. It is great for getting updates from news sources, athletes, investment bloggers etc. My son in law has a very clever Twitter account for his Ragdoll cat and puts out the most hilarious tweets. (i.e. after we all (not the cat) went to the Brad Paisley concert the cat (T_Monk) tweeted, “I wish Brad Paisley would check ME for ticks.” (you have to be a country music fan)
I have enjoyed following Lance Armstrong, my kids, my county and my city alerts on twitter. I don’t care if strangers follow me, but I’m not following them back.

Well, I spoke too soon. S2 friended me today. 2 down and 2 to go. I also do not post on thier pages. The most I have done is mark ‘like’ on a couple of things - like her coment that she was coming home  and an absolutely gorgeous picture her roommate took of her. I have not plunged into Twitter yet. Not sure what I would say.

I have an account so I can look at pictures of D1 college but I’m not friend with anybody and not accepting friend with anyone.

I have a page. I’ve only had it for a couple of months, and am already up to 52 friends: relatives, high school & college people from the past. I love looking at the photos posted by my relatives who live hundreds of miles away and seeing their statuses, it’s a way to feel more in touch with each others’ day to day lives.

I haven’t friended my kids, and won’t attempt to. They’d both turn me down. :(

I joined a few months back and have a lot of fun with it. I like to be "found " by old friends and people I have lost touch with. I have read some pretty impressive things about some of my old classmates, one of which was a grammy nominee this year. Another is a professor at my daughter’s college.

Just this morning, I checked my email and found a request from someone that I honestly thought passed away ( struggled with anorexia for many years )
My kids make it clear that they don’t want to have me as their friend there and that is fine

I didn’t force my kids to friend me. But they decided that they wanted to continue to have Internet access, so they did.

lol, that’s funny hunt. when i was a kid i paid a portion of the internet bill so nobody could pull that one on me. :)

i really enjoy keeping up with old friends… ialso have some of my son’s friends ‘friend’ me…

Not me. No interest in signing up for Facebook.

I love facebook. It is not as addictive as cc but I am enjoying little reunion connections with a few friends from high school and college - and I am especially enjoying my connections with cousins and some older nieces and nephews.

I love looking at pictures of my D and her friends at college. (I do not post on her wall.)

Thanks. I really appreciate reading everyone’s experiences and wide range of opinions.

Ahh, now S1 has friended me. That leaves 1 left. Since he lives with us I bet he does not sucomb. I do think that they have me on the restricted list, though so I don’t see everything :)

I joined just recently to locate old friends and stay up to date with current ones that I don’t get to see too often. I told S that I joined and asked if he would be my friend and he laughed and said no…he also refused my sister.
I am glad I can’t see his page, I am sure I would not like the things on it. Even if I had his password, I am not so sure I could look. I would feel like I was spying and there are probably things on there that I could go my whole life without having to know. The only thing I would like to see is the picutres of all the fun he is having at college.
