Yesterday I got a notice that grayed everything out except a notice telling me to deal with my privacy settings. But I couldn’t because it froze my computer. Today, no notice and I went in to my privacy setting and found the changes.

I did reset all of my setting, but I am having a really weird problem. My D has posted a link for a special event she was in but for some reason I cannot see that posting at all. Other of her friends can see it and it works but on mine I dont even see it. I can see her posts before and after but not that one. She has checked her settings as well but nothing seems askew. Any ideas.

I noticed when they pulled this switcheroo last week and I had to verify or reset my settings back to where they were. VERY ANNOYING!!!

S1 says that the event might be limited to D’s school network, so depending on how she posted it, the post might also be limited.

It seems random what Facebook did to people’s privacy settings. Some people I know had their privacy settings changed to “everybody” – mine were kept the way I had set them initially.

If you go to settings < privacy < search, you can check or uncheck the “public search results.” If this is not checked, it means that when your name is searched on Google, your limited Facebook profile will NOT appear. If it IS checked, it means when your name is searched on Google, a very limited page comes up.

I did look up the page of the lady whose debt collection calls and letters I receive all the time. I was able to see everything on her page (unlike two weeks ago when I found her) and she’s not a friend of a friend.

I just went on and started browsing various friends of my daughter’s and other teens that I know. For many of them, I was able to read their Wall – but for others, I couldn’t even see who their friends are.

Thanks Mom911, D comes home tomorrow so I will check that with her. I do not want to pry on her page so I will just get her to show it to us on her laptop and she can decide about her own security.

ummm… this “problem” also creates a unique opportunity, as I accidentally discovered.
Now might be a good time to snoop around your kid’s and kid’s friends facebook pages. Things hidden from you in the past may be available now.
