Facebook misconduct: Med students cross line

It’s the same way in any profession. I’m currently under five independent confidentiality agreements. I’m not actually working on any projects right now that I can admit to having worked on. My friends ask, “What are you working on?” because they’re used to my having cool stories about what I do, and I have to say “Stuff.”

In all professions, there are situations involving confidentiality, and in all situations, it’s made clear that breach of confidentiality is something that is not to be taken lightly. There have always been bad apples, though.

Violating confidentiality is grounds for expelling the student in most health care related college programs. That should include med school. It is the first thing they need to learn and it is sacred. Then handwashing as studies show that physicians have the lowest rate of handwashing of any health profession. However, to think that a physician had a past that was free of any transgressions is crazy, IMHO. They are not on a pedastal or throne. They are human and this is their job…just like we all have jobs.
