Failed first semester, will I be kicked out?

A combination of first time having this much freedom, blowing off homework and attendance, and basically being a stupid, lazy freshman led me to this point. First semester, a whopping GPA of 0.94, failed 2 classes out of 4.
I know with a GPA under 1.00, it is an automatic drop, but do they give a second chance to first semester freshmen? I read the policies for many colleges, and it all read “automatic drop, no probation (except for first semester freshmen)”, but under my finals grades, the academic standing is listed as “drop”.
Does anybody have experience with this?

If you hope to have any chance of reinstatement, you need to schedule an appointment with your college advisor immediately. Contact the undergrad office of your college and explain your situation. I have no idea what your chances are after waiting so long to attempt to remedy your situation, but your chances are zero, if you don’t attempt to work it out with your college advisor immediately.

I was just not paying attention to my grades and being careless. I didn’t know it would turn out this bad, and now it’s biting me in the ass. I have every intention of contacting my advisor as soon as school opens up again (jan 1st), since now nobody is in the offices. For now I’m just asking if anybody knows according to the student code, if first semester freshmen get another semester of probation regardless of GPA, or do we get kicked out immediately as well.

It looks like, normally, as a beginning freshman, you would be placed on 2.0 probation, but your semester GPA is so low that it looks like you’re in automatic drop status. Your only hope is Drop rule 5 which states:

(5) The drop rules may be waived when, in the judgment of the student’s college, his or her scholastic record warrants such action.

So, yes, when the offices open on Tuesday, January 2nd, call and ask if you can petition your Drop status.

Thank you for the reply, I’m gonna do exactly that and hope for the best. I’m just confused about the policies listed on these pages:
[Prospective Students: Undergraduate Advising Probation and Drop Rules and Advice - ECE ILLINOIS | University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign](http://www.ece.illinois.edu/students/ugrad/probation.html)
[Undergraduate Affairs > Student Handbook](http://business.illinois.edu/undergrad/handbook/more_policies.html)

These both say the drop rule applies to all students, except for beginning freshmen. I’m in the college of LAS, and I know these pages are for other colleges, but it said the student code applies to all students, so I’m assuming the policies listed on these pages apply to all students too?

I know it seems I’m just looking for a loophole right now. I’m just confused and scared, and I’m going crazy trying to guess what’s gonna happen to me. So this is just my effort to try to calm down at least until I can contact the office and know for sure what’s gonna happen.

Hey I just want to let you know you’re not the only one
I failed 2 out of 5 GPA 0.97
If you look at the student code of conduct at the last rule under academic drop it says your college can choose to overturn the drop rule

I spoke to my advisor today and she said the academic college committees are meeting this week and will decide if they want to drop you or not.

She said check back January 5th 5:00 PM on enterprise

I wish us both luck!

Sorry January 4 5:00 PM

Even though its not January 4th yet my status just changed from academic drop to college probation so keep checking back…!

I am in the same situation as you, and I am from LAS too, can you plz tell me did you get kicked out or probation, I am so worried.
