I believe you have a shot at UCLA!

If a major requires two semesters of a foreign language, can they be two separate languages, i.e. Spanish 1 in Fall and Japanese 1 in Spring, or does it need to be a Spanish 1 then Spanish 2? Assist does not specify.

@theoldguy In general, it should be the same language. What major?

Hey guys! Is it bad to take 21 units (Math, O-Chem, Zoology, Humanities, & Music) for your last semester in a CC? Right now, I’m taking 17.5 units.

Can you handle 21 units? The UCs will give you a contract along with your acceptance, which expects a certain GPA. Sometimes it is just maintain a B average, but other times it can be higher.

Thanks for the reply!
BTW, is it possible if I take the Humanities class during summer before the fall I transfer? Or should I just go for partial igetc certification? Does UCLA even accept partial certification?

From: http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/archive/catalog/2012-13/catalog/catalog12-13-41d.htm

“Students who select the IGETC must complete it entirely before enrolling at UCLA. Students who are unable to complete one or two IGETC courses prior to transfer may request certification of partial completion of IGETC from their community college. On certification, the remaining courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C in each. Students who fail to complete the remaining IGETC coursework or who are otherwise not eligible for IGETC or partial IGETC are required to complete the College GE requirements.”

So I think you are fine with partial, but you might need to take some more classes at UCLA to satisfy the Gen Ed requirement. Also, don’t select ‘IGETC certified’ on the application.

Bumping and posting http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/UCLA_TAG.pdf from @Cayton

@ennanozid yes you can take the humanities class during the Summer before and it will count toward completing the IGETC. Be sure to note it in your update that you plan to complete it in the Summer instead of Spring. How many UC transfer units will you have at the end of Spring?

I am almost done with my UCLA Application. I am at SMC and I took two 8-week classes and two-16 week classes. I have already received the grades for my two 8-week classes. Should I put those in and keep the other two IP, or just keep them all IP since the semester is not over?

Also, is it true that our Winter 2015 grades will be considered as well?

If you know the for-sure grade, I don’t see a problem putting it in the application now.

The UCs state that winter grades are not part of the admissions decisions, but UCLA has accepted Winter grades in the past

@Happy2Help I will actually finish my IGETC by this spring. I enrolled in a winter intersession course.

Anxious to see the transfer profile for 2014 admits

Justin, any idea when that comes out? I thought they would have released the info by now, so applicants are more informed when choosing majors based on last years results. Hoping they are not much different from 2013. Hope there are no surprises, considering I already applied.

I was just thinking the same thing @fullload, if a huge change would make me reconsider my major or plans. Hopefully it comes out soon since it says it will be available in November

@luckie1367 @fullload

Huge changes are unlikely, based on the relative stability of GPAs for admitted applicants in the last few years. There will no doubt be differences between the 2014 cohort and previous years’ cohorts with regards to admission rates to various majors, GPAs, and application numbers, but the numbers should be relatively similar.

@luckie1367 I meant even if there are some big changes on 2014 profile you can’t do much thing becos deadline is coming and all major preps have to complete by this spring I myself changed my major 2 weeks ag(o but just in the same department. the chart just gonna make applicants more confident or nervous (hopefully it wont’ happened :(

I have a quick question: is it bad to take 4 math classes for the spring semester??? ( stat, linear, differential eqt, cal 3) I changed my major toward something more about math so I have to wrap all up this spring. Though I’m very excited to take all 4 I still wonder, especially they’re my major preps. Will it make I look like less prepare for the major?

I could always apply for a different major or apply next year.

Can you handle 4 math classes? It will be important to keep your GPA up so you application isn’t rescinded.

Idk but I feel if I try my best i can get B. I’ll have 2 more classes but I think of do Pass/No Pass. Will it affect my transfer? If i get something like 3.25 nxt semester will my app get rescinded?
I have no choice becos they are all major preps, and UCLA does look at how many major preps I’ve completed. I can take 3 classes, but Idk if it’ll risk my chance than doing 4 classes?
