How is everyone else doing?

I am a parent who has been watching CC for a few years, never posting. My son has transfered and very happy at UCLA. I wanted to say THANK YOU to LindyK8, Luckie1367 and everyone else who has added informative information, I looked forward to your posts GREAT JOB!!! Now my attention moves to my 11th grader, how to get into UCLA??? Good luck to all you transfers and their parents.

Wow, thanks so much @corvette1971. It is really and truly appreciated, and especially nice since you took the time to post your one single post. :slight_smile:

So now it will start all over again with your 11th grader! I’m sure you know the ropes by now…

Aw, congrats @corvette1971! And thank you :slight_smile:

If I may suggest the CC -> UC route for your 11th grader. Online CC classes (or in person through your local CC) would be an excellent way to get ahead in the transfer process.

I was attending UC Riverside this fall but had to drop due to financial reasons and I didn’t like the school at all. I wanted to increase my chance of transfering so I decided to leave ucr for a CC. My top choice schools are UCLA, UCSB, and UCI. I’m deciding between doing business admin or international studies. Also, I am behind since I wasn’t able to attend school this semester because the Uc’s are on quarter system and the CC’s are on semesters. I’m going to attend Citrus College and I wanted to know if anyone has some advice for transferring to UCLA and how I can manager time with catching up with what I missed so far. I’m really stressing out because I’m afraid I won’t be able to transfer within two years. I do plan on taking summer classes as well.

Winter Quarter Schedule is up :slight_smile:

Midterms have been a pain, but wow, I really love being a student here! :x

I doubt people go on here much anymore, but does anyone know if it’s even possible to switch roommates now? Really not having a good time with my arrangement. My roommate has only showered once in the past two weeks… among other things.

Midterms are hard. I have two more actually.

@apocalypso
There’s a roommate switch event held every quarter. I tried to find information on the roommate swap for fall quarter is held online, but I couldn’t. It may have already passed.

If it has, you can try and stick it out until next quarter and switch with someone else then. It sucks, but that’s the only option I see being available to you.

@luckie1367
The first quarter is always the hardest. Glad to know you’ve survived!

Does UCLA offer a variety of online courses during the summer? I’m thinking about this now so I could plan the number of classes I could possibly take over Winter and Spring

How long did it take for you guys to transfer to UCLA from a community college? My counselor discouraged me by telling me I would have to stay a third year in order to transfer. I plan on applying to UCLA as a global studies major. Would it really take me 3 years to transfer or can I do it in 2?

@sc4589 It’s definitely doable in two, however you will have to complete 60+ units, IGETC/GE, and your major’s prerequisites. Are you on track to do this all by the Spring of 2016, assuming you are applying now? (if not 2016, then 2017?)

@goldencub The thing is, I’m already behind on my coursework because I withdrew from UCR within my first 2 weeks because of financial aid issues. So i was unable to enroll halfway through the semester at the cc. But I do plan on taking summer school and full course loads during the year. I’m I being too optimistic for thinking I could do this within two years?

I did it in 2 years, but I also went to school continuously (i.e took classes every winter and summer)

Have you looked at assist.org to see what classes you need to complete?

Also, how is everybody doing?

I did it in 3 semesters and a summer. I took 15-19 units during the semester, and I took 8 units during the summer. It wasn’t always easy, but it was doable. I also worked 40 hours a week.

If you start next semester, and take 5-6 courses, then take 2 during the summer, you might be able to pull it off. Try to take courses that are 4 units rather than 3. They aren’t usually more difficult than 3 units, but it builds your credits faster.

Am I missing something? Global studies has 6 courses, not sure all are articulated, plus the 11 IGETC. It seems very doable in two years. No math, except the stats (which BTW may cross-fulfill the quant math, didn’t look). I’m not seeing the huge issue which leads to three years.
