Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@lindyk8 I took 3 years of Spanish in highschool. So would that mean I only need to take 2 literature classes? For my school (Cypress college) they don’t offer the literature courses and assist says I have to take a 4th semester of Spanish. But at another local community college it says that I only needed a 2nd semester of a foreign language(Ive taken 3 years in highschool) and 2 lit courses. Could I fulfill that part of my major requirement at another community college so I wouldn’t have to take another year of language or do I have to complete it at the my home community college?

@uclahopeful2017 I think you may need one more language semester plus 2 lit in one case, just two lit in the other case.

Three years high school equals 1-1/2 years college level. So you have that.

Assuming your CCC has the accelerated program: 2 years hs equals 1 college semester (or one college year), which you have. But the 3rd year in high school is only the equivalent of half a college year (meaning less than the second accelerated semester). So you’re missing a full semester.

The equivalent of the required 5 quarter language courses is 1-2/3 years. This is what the dept requires. On assist, when calculated via semester, it is saying 4 semesters equal the 5 quarters for non-accelerated, and two semesters for accelerated program. In both cases you are required to take what would be considered two college years of language, as there is no way for a semester to accommodate 1-2/3 years.

However, if your CCC is not using the accelerated program (meaning two semesters at a CCC equal 2 high school years, or one college year), you actually may have fulfilled the language part because you only need a third college semester, which appears to be the equivalent of your 3rd high school year. Thus, if I am understanding it correctly, you just need two lit classes.

This is one time when the non-accelerated program may work to your advantage.

As I have noted before, you really need to get the skinny directly from the UC. Don’t rely on CC.

What CCC are you attending? Wait - it’s cypress. Let me look.

Ok, I haven’t looked yet but if Cypress is saying four language semesters, it is NOT the accelerated program. The accelerated program says two semesters.

So, yay! It looks like you only need two lit classes- but again VERIFY VERIFY VERIFY!

–> If I had read your whole post I wouldn’t have needed that long-winded explanation. :smiley:

Ok, again I didn’t read your whole post:

No lit classes.

Since you appear to have fulfilled through third semester language at your CCC, you should be able to get into fourth semester language, with a 5th quarter to be taken later at UCLA.

You don’t want the accelerated as I don’t think you will place as high and will need more language courses. That’s my take, anyway.

Again, verify!

Hi all, just checking in before finals :slight_smile: I can’t believe the first quarter is down!!

@luckie1367 How did your quarter go?

@Cayton how was commuting?

@Cayton, I’d say pretty well. There were a few hiccups here and here, but thankfully nothing major.

I’ve loved 2/3 of my classes, I’m getting along well with my roommate, and the food is 100x better than expected.

I’ll probably write more once my finals are over, but I am a very happy UCLA student :x

@Happy2Help
Commuting is soul-crushing, lol. The process is just tiring in its own way. I’ll only be doing this until summer 0216, though, and then I’ll get my degree, so I’ll just need to be patient.

@luckie1367

Good!

Stay away from Feast, though. It let me down more times than you can count.

Hang in there @Cayton!

So I just finished all of my finals. :frowning:

@Franchman
How did it go :-< ?

Hey guys, how do you like being a transfer student at UCLA so far, and what were your reasons for transferring? I applied to transfer for fall 2016 so I’m just curious to hear other people’s experiences. :slight_smile:

LOL. Guys. One year ago from tomorrow we found out our decisions :smiley:

@Salmanthgr8
How’s UCLA treating ya?

HAI GUYZ :smiley: I happened to come on to answer a message I got from someone and I saw that this thread was in the recents again! Hope UCLA is treating you all well!

2nd year transfer students, any of you been offered 2016 UCLA housing? My son has not heard a thing. Any thoughts about when the offers will be sent out? thank you

@corvette1971 my D, this being her 2nd/senior year, was notified on 8/27/15 of her assignment by logging in to the account, I believe.

Wow, that long? Trying to have it locked up by the end of this semester. Looks like it could be a long summer, Thank you

I can’t believe its been more than a year, I hope everyone is doing well!
