Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@Sustenance , I don’t know… it seems like you weren’t aware that there is actually a csula, and that it is a completely different school. Hope you applied to the right one

@zeppelinlover I would stay at SB. I like a lot of things about SB but as you said I’m just hopeful that I could become a bruin

@fullload Get outta here with your reasoning and logic.

@nicky12345 Thanks for letting me know. My daughter got into SB and SD from SC and if the LA thing doesn’t work then she will have to pick between those 2 because she doesn’t want to stay at SC.

@olivia1093 Mine was changed to my alternate major as well. Don’t quote me, but I’m pretty sure this means you were rejected as your first choice major but accepted as your alternate major. Unfortunately, you can not switch into an impacted major once admitted, but you can potentially switch into a non-impacted major.

@zeppelinlover you’re welcome! UCSB is obviously gorgeous and I enjoy the school, but in some ways I think UCLA and Westwood would be a better fit for me than UCSB and Isla Vista, which is just pretty crazy. I’m sure she’ll be great either way! Good luck to her!

The necromancy of admission “hints” is getting hilarious in here.

@MaMoi77 I appreciate your use of the word necromancy! I believe, though, people are just trying to cope with the wait

@olivia1093 Its hard to tell really. Communications is really impacted and ive seen people with 4.0 gpas and TAP with good ecs get rejected. You should be good for anthropology though, people in the low 3s get accepted into that

@nicky12345 My daughter says the same thing about Westwood and UCLA. When we went to visit last month she said, “this just feels like home!”

Okay super random question–I’m really curious about everyone’s personal statements and how they will factor into the admissions decision. When I wrote my two for the UCs I was amazed at how few examples I could find online. I felt like I was just shooting in the dark. I thought that they were strong, but it’s so hard to tell. Did any one else have this experience? And is there a forum or website somewhere where students who have applied can post their essays for other students to read? I feel like that would’ve been really helpful…

@glondon Speaking to a UCLA admissions counselor a couple months ago, she said most people fail in their personal statements because they either go off topic or just don’t answer the question at all. As long as you show some passion for your major and really show the admissions staff that your major fits you then you’re good.

@glondon I had a hard time finding examples as well. Before I wrote mine I asked a couple people who I know that go to UCLA to let me read theirs. In general, I think a strong personal statement is one that draws on an experience and how it relates to your future plans/major. Though this is just a guess based on what I’ve read and heard. I’ve also heard talking up EC’s help, but in case you don’t have a lot of those, the former is typically the best route to take.

UCLA is supposed to be more holistic in their admissions this year, so I assume essays are actually read. But I really do wonder if it’s only read when you’re on the fence in the process. Hmm.

@glondon I also think the statements are used mostly to compare similar students.

Dang it, just checked my horoscope for tomorrow:

“You’re likely changing your mind about something that has been important to you. Perhaps you’re questioning your job, career path, or choice of a mate. Confusion may dominate your thoughts today. Don’t expect to arrive at any concrete answers by day’s end. This is a situation that will only be resolved with time. Try to be patient.”

My UCLA adviser said they grade little of PS for transfer applicants. They don’t grade personal qualities through PS as freshman applicants.
She said they give you a small boost only if you meet certain circumstances like family responsibility, military service, employment while attending school, community service etc.

Any other clues decisions are out tomorrow? I don’t think I can handle waiting another week. -_-

Sammy, I hope you get in, if only for your health. I’m not sure you would survive a rejection.

See Post#1643 on page 110 if you didn’t already. It says If not tomorrow then Monday for sure… If that’s true at most we are waiting 4 more days… not too bad
