@Cheolf did you switch from Berkeley?
@Panorama14 you just log into my ucla and it should be on bottom of the first page that loads.
Parking does work on a lottery system during the school year, but with some exceptions. Supposedly, they take into account your year (seniors get priority) and your distance from campus. If you do not get a permit, you can file an appeal.
If you live on campus, you have to have an exemption, such as an off campus job or internship.
During the summer, it is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

@luckie1367 thanks for clearing things up a little. I’ll be crossing my fingers come application time.
@Cheolf You made the right decision.
Did anyone get a call from ucla by this number 310 825 4321 today? Around 8 pm? Anyone know what it was for cause I missed it and can’t call back. I already sir’d.
@NaniExclamationPoint I got a call after I sird. They just reminded me about the deadlines about transcripts, housing, orientation, etc. and asked if i had any questions for them
Also I sent my transcript and on the my.ucla.edu site it says this: A preliminary transcript has been received from______ . A final transcript is still required. The final transcript is the second transcript you send after you complete spring session, correct?
@Cheolf
Yay!
But be forewarned–UCLA’s philosophy program is heavily analytic. Many classes assume you’ve taken symbolic logic already.
@Cayton I made the decision to switch to history once I attend orientation. I inquired about it at Bruin Day and they said it wasn’t a big deal. I already have all the history pre-reqs completed, except for the one that must be taken at UCLA.
I’m still very glad I took all the philosophy courses that I did. I believe they have improved my reasoning and writing abilities. UCLA’s history department is amongst the best, so I am very excited for that. I was a history major prior to this last fall; philosophy was a spur of the moment thing (I absolutely loved my philosophy of religion class).
@Cayton @UCLAFFF You guys will be officially graduating soon, right? Or did one or both of you graduate already?
@themightybicycle Yes, except I never SIRed. I indicated my intentions to do so, though!
@Cheolf Two more weeks, the quarter will end and graduation is in June. But I will be on south side of campus as a medical student, so i’m not too far really.
How do we sign up for orientation? I got a thing in the mail but on myucla it says it’s not available for sign ups yet…"?
@grimmghost Signups for orientation start on June 3, 2016 at 12:00 PM (PDT) at http://www.my.ucla.edu/

@Cheolf yay congrats! just curiously, i’m still stuck in between the two - what made you change your mind?
Does anyone know how difficult it will be to get an apartment in August/September?
Does anyone need to take the French Placement Test?
When is the deadline to sign up for Session C summer courses?
Does anyone know what happens at the orientation? Is it like a one-on-one appointment with your advisor to plan out your classes and stuff? I’ve never been to one so I don’t know
@troubledcollegestudent
Orientation info from the UCLA website: http://www.newstudents.ucla.edu/transferstudents.htm#schedule

The book that they mention “Zeitoun” was that year’s “common book”.
For the next school year (2016-2017) it will be Between the World and Me: Ta-Nehisi Coates according to http://www.firstyearexperience.ucla.edu/
It looks like the schedule in general is (the exact order may be slightly different):

Afternoon:
Lunch
Meet with adviser/ counselor / ask questions about major
tour
Some workshops
Night: Dinner / Register for classes
