FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

06-07-2016 at 9:44 pm

I got a Deluxe Triple in De Neve Residence Hall. I am 25 yrs old (going on 26) and have lived out on my own. I can’t even begin to explain how upset I am about my housing offer. If I accept and submit a CAR, what are the chances of me landing in a room that has a private or shared bathroom (non-community bathroom)?? Or is it best to just get an off campus apartment?

Update:
I called the Housing Office this morning. They basically told me that I need to accept my offer and submit a CAR like everyone else and, if I insist, I can email the Housing Office with my information for consideration. There’s no guarantee for anything at all and there’s no guarantee my age or past living situation will be considered. I will know by the end of July if they are about to accommodate my CAR.

**In case my CAR does not get approved, does anyone know of a UCLA exclusive page where I can connect with other UCLA students looking for a roommate/housing?

@Happy2Help I’m not an out of state student, my parents just have a high income bracket so I’m not eligible for a lot of the grants. Is it considered personal if its a parent plus loan?

@GirlPower1 if it’s a ParentPlus loan then yes I believe it is financial aid. Sorry I can’t help as I paid full fees. It sounded like it was a personal loan.

Without going to orientation, you will be assigned a registration date which is after all of the orientations are done. So in cases where a certain number of class seats are saved for incoming transfers at each orientation, you would not benefit from those reserved spots. Also any other courses are likely to be filled up as well. This doesn’t mean you won’t get courses - it means that it’s likely that you’ll be taking classes that aren’t your ideal choices. You can still monitor classes to see if people drop and try to get in early in the quarter.

Orientation was an OK day, but registering for classes, and getting that off my mind, was worth it for me.

So I signed up for my orientation day, but the 7:30 sign in is so early. I read somewhere that you have until 10 at the latest to get there. Is that true?

@Oldhopeful I think 10 is too late. I would try to get there no later than 8 but with traffic, you’re better off getting there by 7 IMHO

@Oldhopeful you cannot arrive any later than 10.

This is the Facebook group for UCLA TRANSFER ROOMMATES.

Where and how do i submit a “CAR” and can someone give me a quick rundown as to what it is. From what I’ve here, i is an application, requesting to switch your living arrangement. In which case, how likely would it be to get a new living arrangement? Thank you.

Hi guys. I feel really dumb for doing this, but I’ve had a hectic few months. I wanted to post my stats in case someone next year comes along looking for some peace of mind and hope.

ACCEPTED
Major: Chemical Engineering
GPA: 3.82
Pre-reqs: All completed, including MATLAB. I had to take it online at SMC. I’m way up in Northern California. Couldn’t do Biochem, nearly all CCCs don’t offer it.
Transferring from: CCC
ECs: Just various tutoring jobs and grading papers. Eagle Scout.
Essays: I believe these are the reason I got in with my GPA. Was very revealing about my personality, and I didn’t try to use huge words to impress the admissions officers. Talked about my struggles with anxiety and being told I was stupid my whole life.

Still in disbelief this happened and I can’t wait to be attending UCLA.

Also, if anyone is looking for a roommate, or already has an apartment and needs a roommate, please tell me. I’m so desperate haha.

I’m in the same position as you. I’m 21 (male), and I’ve lived on my own the past few years. If you want to connect on Facebook and start looking at apartments off campus, I would be down. And I’m very serious about finding a place so I think we would have no problem finding an apartment. Let me know. @jessebobessy

Did anyone get a triple/shared bath in Rieber Vista??

I got DN Deluxe triple. Is anybody getting the blue and gold financial aid plan and have on campus housing? I was wondering how much they give you for housing, because right now my status is commuting and I just changed it, but I don’t know how long it will take to update my award letter and I just wanted to make sure I can afford it before I accept the offer!

Does anyone have the Facebook link for transfers looking for a roommate? I tried the one @Gillygun linked above but it did not work. Also, does anyone have a link which explains the differences in the meal plans. Any help would be appreciated

@AponteV To make the link work, replace the *** in the link with

then the link should work (make sure to remove all the spaces first)

@wonder77 This might sound like a dumb question but are the people on the fb page looking for dorm roommates or off-campus housing roommates?

@AponteV That is not a dumb question.
Most people on the fb page are looking for off-campus housing roommates BUT there are also people looking for dorm roommates! So if you are looking for a roommate you can post on/search that page! You just have to submit a request to join (because it is a “Closed” group).

@worldchanger I’m female and would prefer to live with other females. I know, my name is so misleading. But if ■■■■ hits the fan, i’ll definitely consider you. There’s no way I’m living in a dorm!

If anyone needs the link to submit a CAR, here it is:

Btw, idk for sure. But when I was originally set on going to Cal Poly SLO (before I found out I got into UCLA obv), in order for me to get into the CPSLO Roommate FB page, I had to add my CP email to my FB account. That was the only way for the FB page admin to verify that I was a student at the school. I just submitted a request to join the UCLA Transfer Roommates FB page and I also added my UCLA email just in case. Just a head up from my experience!

I just saw this article. This is probably why a good amount of us who got housing got Triples.

Hi ! Question … Did you get in on an appeal ? I appealed their decision but still haven’t heard anything back :frowning:
