@AmberMarisa28 Right?! They had a 7% acceptance rate last year so it’s definitely one of the hardest majors in UCLA yet alone any program to transfer to. I was surprised there wasn’t a UCLA fall 2016 applicant page on allnurses.com haha. But yea, I’m also very anxious/excited to hear back from them.
Are you all done with your prereqs?
@goldencub this regents essay is so difficult! I’ve rewritten the first paragraph about 8 times
@E2DuhJ Right!!! I began a discussion post on allnurses but nothing. I’m kind of hoping that we are the only two that has applied so far, lol!!! I was able to search through Instagram a few weeks ago and came across a page of someone who was admitted into their nursing program last year as a transfer student. She posted a picture of the ten people that were accepted. I nearly vomited, smh… I’ve finished all of the general Ed classes asked on the supplemental application however I am currently registered to complete my communications class and stats class this summer but from my understanding those courses are classes that can taking upon admission into the program. How about yourself?! I’m actually surprised not to hear anything this year from people that have applied. It’s a little weird and also scary at the same time, lol.
@boxandwhiskers Not true. @vvsharoom2016transfer You are fine, as long as you only have 1 prerequisite class that you are taking in Spring 2016. If you have 2 or more, then it will count against you.
@AmberMarisa28 OMG that’s so scary! yea unfortunately for us UCLA only admits a small amount of transfers. I’m sure there are a lot of other nursing applicants out there somewhere lol. Nice! I’m finishing up the last two prereqs for them this semester so now im just waiting axiously :((
@E2DuhJ I know! This has been the longest week of my life. I’m hoping for the best but mentally preparing myself for the worst. I saw that you were accepting into other programs though so that’s good. I was also but UCLA has always been my dream school and their tuition is affordable compared to the other private programs I was accepted into.
@ElevatedThinking i have a question. I am a first year transfer, and the reason I can transfer so early is because of my AP classes. I was trying for comm, but then switched to history for my major. I have one class this spring sem and I’ll finish my IGETC. I took one history prereq over winter and got an a, but the other two I’m taking currently. are you saying that it will count against me?
also i put pre sociology as my alternate major on my application because I didn’t know you can’t put an impacted major as an alternate, do you think that will count against me or would they just ignore it?
@AmberMarisa28 Thats good, i should do that too lol. And yes, I am very thankful to have been accepted to CSULB and CSULA which are both very good programs. UCLA though is also my dream school. Congrats on your admittance to nursing programs as well! May I ask where you have been admitted too? And for cost wise, did you look at any CSUs?
@E2DuhJ I was accepted at Cal Baptist, wait listed at Mount Saint Mary’s, and still waiting back on word from Azusa Pacific. I contemplating applying to CSULB but I’m not actually sure why I didn’t. From my understanding though, I believe CSULA is like one of the top nursing programs in California so that’s great!!!
@E2DuhJ Both Cal Baptist and Mt Saint Marys are roughly about 30,000 a year and Cal Baptist is actually a three year program. I also got accepted into West Coast but they wanted 120000 for three years and I work with a few people who go there and they hate it.
@anxiousmac Yes it will, but the fact that you are a first year transfer will give you some leniency. Hopefully you explained in the Additional Comments section why you still have 2 prerequisites left to take in Spring. If not, the admission officers will account for the fact that you had one year less than 2nd year transfer students to finish your courseload.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much because your major is nowhere as impacted.
@AmberMarisa28 yea I heard that West Coast is extremely way too expensive but congrats though! And thanks! I’m actually leaning more towards CSULB than CSULA because I have done a lot of research and CSULB seems to be a better fit for me and their nursing program is one of the top in the state. But yea you should of applied! This year they had around 560 applicants with the average GPA around 3.95! And they only admitted 80 students. Of course with the UC’s though you don’t have to take the TEAS exam which was a pain lol
@E2DuhJ Yeah I agree… I actually looked into CSULB and told myself that if I don’t get accepted into UCLA then I might apply here. I’m not sure. I just need a decision made from UCLA first before I can move on with my life, lol… Most nursing programs are impacted in California and I have heard it is that much more difficult to find a job here as a RN as well. This is crazy because they are in such short demands in other parts of the country… I was required to take a Kaplan exam at MSMU and it absolutely sucked. I heard the TEAS are pretty comparable.
@AmberMarisa28 YES that is so true. I feel like I’m stuck right now because I can’t make any final decisions on where I will be pursuing my BSN this fall until UCLA and UCI get back to me.
Yea I heard that as well, that is why the rise for nurses with a BSN AND previous experience is going up for California.
Was the kaplan exam consisted of an english, reading, science and math exams as well?
@E2DuhJ The Kaplan exam was consisted of Math, Reading, Science, and Math. When accepted are you planning to commute to school or live on campus?
yup, then it was pretty much like the TEAS lol.
And I’m planning on living on campus for the first semester/quarter then looking for an apartment. I live wayy to far from most of the schools I applied to haha. how about you?
Can anyone look at my chances to UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCB?
Major: Neurosciece
Ups:
GPA: 3.83
Fabulous EC and leadership
Californian resident
immigrant to US
Divorced family
Honors College
I think I did good essays
Downs:
All pre-reqs done except Ochem
From out-of-state University (Not college)
Lack research in Neuroscience
2 ESL courses in application out of 71 credits.
Can someone tell me which school can I get into/not get into?
@diuneilomo hey I’m a neuro major too! You’re very competitive however since you’re missing ochem that might hinder your chance as they require atleast one semester of ochem
I submitted a coursework change to UCLA, and they responded with:
“Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, we are no longer accepting coursework updates. If you are admitted, you will be required to submit your updates through an academic change form on our decision site.”.
Gee, it would be pretty lame to get admitted and then have my heart stomped on with a rescindence! My situation: Applied as philosophy major, 3.90 GPA. I’ll have 67 units completed, IGETC was completed last semester. Will have 3/4 pre-req done (in addition to three extra philosophy courses). Had to drop the 4th pre-req, resulting in a W.
Is this a sick penance to account for all my years as a USC fan?! @-)
