Fall Leaves Trip in North America—mid Oct

Thanks, @emilybee. I probably would keep a bag like that rather than recycling as well. Sounds like it was a very nice and memorable favor!

" I’m thinking of getting some recycled nylon sail products as gifts. They look lovely and it will be nice to have repurposed sails."

Sea Bags? Yes they make great gifts. We have several of their products in our family.

Maple syrup (tins or the sturdy glass bottles), maple sugar candy.

Maine Sea Salt Company sells smoked sea salts.

Many local craftspeople in Maine including some beautiful pottery you could have wrapped and/or shipped. You might want to scout out this site where you can sort by product but also by region.

Sea Bags can be expensive. A nice gift for your daughter, but pricey to give to your large family.

Yes, seabags are lovely but I can’t find much that is lower-priced for less expensive gifts.

The nylon wallets and cardholder made from racing sails by the competitor are a bit more affordable.

They sell HI sea salt, so I’m not going to be buying any in Maine.

The Camden Snow Bowl ski area has chairlift rides 9-1 Sundays in October. It’s about halfway between Acadia and Portland, overlooking the water. https://www.camdensnowbowl.com/ Scroll down past the season pass sales to see a pic of the view.

Maine is also famous for its wild blueberries. Wild blueberries have a much more intense flavor than farm-raised blueberries—there’s just no comparison—and they’re especially abundant in Maine. Be sure to try some blueberry pie and/or blueberry pancakes while you’re there, and you might think about Maine wild blueberry jam or blueberry syrup as a small “I was thinking about you” gift.

My H is loves blueberries and is excited to try the blueberry pie when we are in Maine next week.

Blueberries…YES.

But one year my MIL sent us all blueberry wine…and it was beyond awful.

IMO, it’s a crime to cook full flavored fresh fruit unless one is trying to preserve. Try fresh blueberries. I had some when I was up there a coupe of weeks ago. It was good, very good.

We found a bunch of wild blueberries not far from our cabin last month. :slight_smile:

^You hit the jack pot!

Wow—fresh wild blueberries sound scrumptious! I have never had any, but do enjoy the ones in stores. I thought the season had long passed.

@HImom

Wild Maine blueberries are not like the ones in stores at all. They are tinier, and usually a little tarter in flavor, but really delicious.

I think they make THE best blueberry pie!!

@MaineLonghorn I would think the wild blueberry season has ended in Maine…right?

@thumper1, oh, yes, quite awhile ago.

Yes, it is not blueberry season currently.

We just got back an hour ago from a day trip along the Kancamagus in the White Mountains. The foliage is a peak right now and it is a spectacular year for color. I’m happy to live in a place where I can enjoy four seasons even if winter lasts a little too long.

As far as accommodations, there appeared to be plenty of places with vacancies today.

Summer = fresh blueberries.

Embrace apples now!

Of course blueberry season is long past but wild blueberries freeze well, and you can still get a killer blueberry pie in Maine.

Yum! Will see if I can get some great preserves too.
