FAQ for USC Financial Aid

I’d like to attend ExploreUSC in the first week of April, but my parents won’t let me go until we see the financial aid package. Understandably, they don’t want to spend money on flights across the country if USC doesn’t turn out to be an affordable option anyway. Does anyone know when we can expect to see the aid package?

As far as I know, all financial aid packages will be sent out in the last days of March or first days of April with the regular decision admittance results :)

USC will help with the flight costs, also. My Explore information says this:

Should you and your parents need to make flight plans or arrange an overnight hotel stay for Explore, we strongly recommend using USC’s official travel agency, STA travel. Call them at either (213) 254-2662 or (888) 502-9056 and mention that you’ll be attending an Explore USC program. They have access to specially discounted plane tickets and hotel rates. If you need to fly to Los Angeles (LAX is our closest airport), we will provide monetary assistance that will offset a portion of the cost for student’s ticket (up to $200 for anywhere other than CA, AZ or NV). STA travel will apply this discount to your ticket.

Rosiesteinbach, USC only covers part of the flight cost for scholarship invitees attending the scholarship explore dates, not the regular explore dates. The release of you financial aid packet could vary evening on when you got the required information to USC. They are available first on USConnect and then they come in the mail. I remember last year some waited until almost May 1st before receiving them. We had our required docs in early. I will try to figure out when we received news of our package.

I just checked old posts to refresh my memory. Around 4/1 we all started seeing financial aid info popping up on USConnect. They were not complete in all cases and some people freaked out. Alamemom warned us to be patient. When the package is complete, an email is sent to the student. Then it is mailed to your house. We got our email about 4/3.

I have a quick question: I got emails from USC about filling out some of the missing info (like signatures or updating this year’s tax info), and so I went on FAFSA and just fixed it up. Will USC automatically see it if I fixed on the FAFSA site electronically? Or do I have to go on USConnect and somehow notify them myself through loading something? I’m a transfer student, btw. I apologize if this has already been asked.

Not sure if they would be notified through FAFSA site, but you can upload forms on USC’s site. There is an “Unknown” upload option (bottom of list) for forms not listed.

Oh, ok. It’s just weird because last time I had to update something, I checked the USConnect status under the FA tab and it went through, but for the signature it doesn’t show anything on there but I got an email so I was a little perplexed. I’ll give them a call later today.

fafsa notifies schools when there are changes but do call to confirm!

If you haven’t been admitted yet, should you still send in all your forms? i got an email asking for additional info today, and seeing as results come out in less than a week, should i just wait until i know my decision before going through the hassle?

If I just uploaded the 2011 Federal Tax Income sheet to USC, is that considered late? I had CSS and FASFA submitted on time.

Ok so I uploaded the “Documentation of Source and Amount of Parents’ One-Time Income” document/file on the USConnect at the beginning of this month, and it still says that the document is pending. Does it say the same thing for the rest of you?

Yes. I uploaded one of my documents like a month ago and it is still pending. I was concerned so I emailed the office and they said as long as it is pending or received then I am fine. I am just worried that since it’s not received, it means that I didn’t get in :(

I’m worrying the same thing! Hopefully it doesn’t mean that though!

I sent the custodial form, tax returns, and monthly expenses through snail mail. Is this ok? Or do I have to redo them and fax?

@foodman1 & musicdoglove i think you’re in a better off position than i am! i submitted my documents 3 days ago & it’s not even listed as pending… i just have the confirmation by email but it still shows up as not submitted in my account =/

I believe if the forms are faxed or emailed, they can take about 2 weeks to process. If uploaded, they are usually processed quicker.

hopefully they appear as pending soon! otherwise i’ll have to reupload them- i uploaded them on saturday evening- but it’s cool i’m going to wait until after tomorrow cause if i don’t get in then there’s no point LOOOL

I’ve been admitted to USC graduate school and they need an answer by April 15th. However, I have not received a financial aid letter yet. On their web-site, it says that financial aid for grad school is done on a “rolling basis”. What does that mean? Should I do my intent to enroll even through I haven’t received a financial letter?

^^ Redtwig–Call and ask for specific information.

If I just now sent in the Custodial Parent form, student non-filing statement, and the parent tax form thingy, will my financial aid get to me in time to make a decision? Will I receive the same amount as if I completed everything earlier?

I sent my FAFSA and profile in January.
