Well, it isn’t like the Board got a big surprise with Summers. He was known as not being the smoothest operator around; some might say “abrasive”. The Board hired him to shake things up, which he has certainly done.

If he has a downfall, I think it will likely be over his ability to navigate the Boston political waters with the Aliston expansion. Those waters are shark-infested and exceptional political sensibilities will be required.

ok ok ok …first picture’s caption:

Summers: “I do like women, really! I’m no homo…”

Hockfield: “ok…well…this soup is just delicious.”

JMMom, I was a stand-up comic who was told to sit down, told that
instead of being on stage I should be under a stage, like the one leaving for Albuquerque in half an hour.

TheDad – I think everyone in my family wishes I were just going THROUGH a stage.

As for the issue of Summers, I don’t think the board hired him with the thought that he’d make a stupid comment about women. I do think they hired him for his aggressiveness, however, in hopes that he’d re-establish some central power over the various fiefdoms.

I just wish some local TV station would televise any meetings between Summers and Mayor “Mumbles” Menino. I’d pony up for pay-per-view.

A high-five to TheDad for those comments. Always glad for the support of the women-in-sciences cause.

~Aries, who spent all of last semester dating a Summers-wanna-be, who told her that men are inherently better at math than women. UGH!
