Fashion Advice for the College Intereview

Dean J over at the UVA admissions blog actually included a link to the article and asked folks for their thoughts and comments. Most of the debate seemed to be over jeans- were they acceptable or not? Now she doesn’t mind jeans- but her pet peeve is a baseball cap. Take it off inside or in class, boys, if you’re meeting with Dean J!

Ds wore button-down shirts (patterned, no tie) and khakis for nearly all of his interviews. Come to think of it, the shirts were short-sleeved.

He’d been advised ahead of time to wear a coat and tie to one interview by a boy from his high school who already went to the school. Even though this was in August, he did. No one else being interviewed that day was dressed like that. A mistake? I don’t think so. He will be attending on a free ride merit scholarship this fall (including personal expenses!).

Woohoo, go Dejason! Sounds like a pretty good ROI on the price of a suit jacket, huh? :D

LOL, geek_mom! Actually, he’s gotten a lot of use out of this lighter-weight suit jacket. He’s had it for three years now, and since then it’s been to every debate tournament, every forensics tournament, mock trial, model judiciary, and to the scholarship days at the college he will attend.

Maybe when he was dressed like that last summer at the regular college interview, they made a note in his file and it made them remember him? Who knows?
