<p>I never put anything so HUGE into my microwave that I can’t easily lift it. You can spill hot items taking them out of your conventional oven. You have to be careful. But that is the case for anything that involves high temps. No one here has ever spilled anything and we are all pretty short folks.</p>
<p>I have never spilled anything either. It really isn’t that high. I don’t stand on my tippy toes or even stretch. I am five foot four.</p>
<p>This is not much help to the OP…sorry Onward, but if anyone else is looking to build in a microwave, I am shamelessly in love with my Sharp microwave drawer. It isn’t too high, not on the counter and eliminates the bending over that other under counter microwaves require. It’s a keeper!</p>
<p>I like those drawers too…but they seem mighty pricey!!</p>
<p>Our built in broke, was repaired twice, is now just sitting there, looking nice but useless. Do you think we can just take it out and put a counter top model in that opening, even if it doesn’t look built in?</p>
