Favorite cold remedy

And here’s a thought to hopefully prevent the next cold from coming - when the preschoolers and teachers come to class the first thing they should do is wash their hands.

^^^
I teach 150 kids each day for 45 minutes each. At the end of the class they need to wash up because we do messy work. I wish I had the time to have them “de-germ” when they enter the room! Lol.

Teachers are exposed to so many germs, we tend to build up quite an immune system and get sick less frequently than the average person would when exposed to the same contaminants.

I drink emergen-C in my water bottle whenever I go to the gym, it is great for energy- no one else in my family likes the taste though.

For colds/flu, I have found that nothing beats the effectiveness of Yin Chiao san, just a couple days & symptoms are completely gone.

From my Hungarian-born professor, the “Hungarian Hat Remedy”:

 1. Get your hat.
 2. Turn the hat upside down.
 3. Fill the hat with… wine. (His father was a vintner. YMMV.)
 4. Drink until you see 2 hats.

Yes, there is no evidence that Airborne does anything but cost money. They had to pay a $20m fine for false advertising. There is some evidence that zinc works.

I second the vodka (or liquor of choice), fresh lemon juice, hot water and honey. Wrap up in an old cotton robe, pile on the blankets and sleep it off.

menloparkmom, Lol!

Love the Hat trick!

Thanks, all. Lots of good advice. I slept until almost noon and am feeling a bit better. Still pushing extra water and vit. C.

The zicam and zinc both affect my tastebuds so nothing taste right which means, hopefully, no cold and lose 2-3#

The Zicam meltaway lozenges have worked for me also. I believe that you’re supposed to take them at the first symptoms of a cold for them to be effective.

Got this tip from a doctor friend and it works for me. At the first sign of a cold, take one 50mg Zinc tablet three times a day (at mealtimes works best).

My problem with zinc is that it works! But when I stop taking it, the cold symptoms return.

When I feel a cold coming on, I head to the gym & sit in the sauna to sweat. Frequently that pre-empts the cold. If I get the cold anyways, then I switch to the steam room.

I learned the hot lemon juice with honey & vodka trick in Germany. In Austria, they drink hot tea with rum. If you cross the border, I guess it’s the Hungarian Hat trick.

If your throat is sore, a hot ginger/lemon/sugar syrup feels great.
Also a warm salt water gargle.

Hot and sour soup.

50,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day for three days.

Seconding the warm salt water gargle, several times a day.

If you like to eat carmelized onions, now would be the time. Save time, do it in the microwave.
