Favorite Quirky Movies

Many I enjoy have been mentioned, but I’ll add:

King of Hearts
Office Space
Bull Durham
Saving Grace
Caddyshack
Dodgeball (yes, really)

Someone listed Napoleon Dynamite and asked “is it quirky”? It might actually corner the market.

I would agree that Napoleon Dynamite is quirky, however I hated it. :)

Doc Savage, Man of Bronze
Buckaroo Banzai
Eraserhead (warning: very creepy)
The “Trinity” Italian Western comedies
Jacques Tati’s “Mr. Hulot” films
Dune (the first theatrical version, not the one modifiied to make it possible to understand)
THX-1138

I really liked TiMER on Netflix. A little different twist on a romantic comedy. Lots of great suggestions on this thread.

Shaolin Soccer

The mention of Buckaroo Banzai reminded me of Earth Girls Are Easy…another older movie with Jeff Goldblum that is also light, silly, and fun.

Eat Drink Man Woman
The Wedding Banquet
Chocolat (Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche for eye candy for all  )
Who is Killing The Great Chefs of Europe?
Ratatouille
Julie and Julia
Nora’s Will

I just saw “Big Night”, which I found underwhelming except for that dinner scene. And the making of the timpano.

Oh how I love Julie Brown’s solo singing scene in ‘Earth Girls Are Easy.’ Shaking her…er…um pom-poms to the tune of “Cause I’m a blonde.” In a role full of hilarity, her funniest line is “I’m a sophomore in my 5th year at UCLA.”

That song also contains the line, “Thank you for naming me Miss January–it’s an honor I’ll remember as long as I can.”
