Favorite Summer Drink?

We always have wine and hard cider in the fridge, but in the summer I love an Aperol spritzer.

We don’t do much hard liquor, but for summer drinks I’d keep it simple: gin & tonic, vodka & tonic, mojito, Cape Codder (cranberry & vodka with a lime twist), daiquiri. We’re also partial to a caipirinha, a Brazilian cocktail made with lime, sugar, and cachaca (a uniquely Brazilian sugar cane liquor, not rum), And nothing wrong with a good margarita. But for me, there’s nothing like an ice cold beer on a hot summer evening. DW feels the same way about a well-chilled dry white wine.

Yes, yes. Everyone come to the mojito side. :)

Other than mojitos, I like rum and some fruit juice (coke doesn’t cut it) or tequila and soda.

For my summer drinks the key ingredient is ice. If I’m out in the sun in 100 degrees, I’ll pretty much drink anything that is wet and has ice in it. Too, summertime if I’m outside and if I’m drinking a beverage in a bottle or can, I want it yanked from a wet icy cold ice chest.

I really like hard ciders (woodchuck makes an AMAZING raspberry), Angry Orchard Crisp Apple tastes like drinking a granny smith apple, and Redd’s Apple Ale is always good.

For mixed drinks, I like Long Island Iced Teas (they’re particularly good with flavored syrup in them), or a good Cosmo. Maybe this is a regional thing, but ordering mojitos around here just pisses off the bartenders and you either can’t taste the alcohol or it knocks you over.

Or you can’t taste the alcohol AND it knocks you over! :))

@NRDMOM will suggest you try a lemon drop. She’s gotten many a CCer hooked.

I may in the minority but I think mojitos are awful.

Lemon drop! That’s what I recommended and any resort bar should have the ingredients.

I do not like hard alcohol. I’m a beer gal. Summer is Mexican beer time. Corona Extra… yum.

With that said, the two summery drinks I’ve taken a liking to are frozen berry margaritas and sex on the beach.

Sex on the beach - what’s in this drink? (is it a drink?)

Edit: Just googled it - yes, it’s a drink.

I like almost anything, but an aperitif with soda on ice is always a great, light option. People have mentioned Campari and soda, and Aperol spritzer. Those are essentially the same thing – Aperol tastes almost exactly like Campari, and is made by the same company, but it has half the alcohol. Either is great, but not everyone (e.g., my wife) likes the somewhat medicinal taste. (The red color on the other hand . . . everyone likes that.) Another option is blonde Lillet and soda, usually served with an orange slice or a twist of orange peel. Or Pernod (anise flavor) and soda.

The Aperol spritz has prosecco in it, which adds a little something and cuts the bitterness a bit. Straight Campari and soda is too bitter for me.
Champagne cocktails or anything over ice. Gin and tonic.

Living in the PNW, we have access to countless hard ciders. Everything from French (Normandy) style, which is wonderful in summer, to hopped, oaked, and gin botanicals.

It’s pouring rain today, so I am trading my rose for red wine.

Sex on the beach is the same drink as Peach on the beach.

^ I’ve never heard it as “peach on the beach” lol

I prefer a ‘Smooth Sheets’ cocktail over a ‘Sex on the Beach’…less gritty and less abrasive tasting drink.

Ice water. :D

Some popular beers are full of GMOs, just read that online today. Including Corona and Corona Light, Coors Light, Budweiser, Michelob Ultra.

The only European beer i like is Birra Moretti la rossa, but I havent seen it for awhile.
My current favorite local beer is a bitter from Stoup Brewery, although I havent tried their World cup winning Porter.
I dont drink much alcohol, Im pretty lightweight, although I do like to go to Thaiku on Phinney Ridge and have one of their herbal cocktails with Schisandra berry. It will put you in the mood for romance.
It works just as well in tea!

I like vodka tonics with a splash of cranberry and lime. It’s a pretty pale pink color and people often ask about it. I’ve searched and have never found an official name, which is surprising to me,.
