Fear of empty nest possible explanation for murder/suicide

My H is a stay at home dad with a masters degree, so I am totally comfortable with him handling the bill paying tasks. He could totally stop paying the premiums on our life insurance and I’d never know. He always brings in the mail, so he could pitch any cancellation notice that came to the house before I saw it.

Don’t know why that would ever happen, but I can see how folks might think they’re insured when they aren’t. I really don’t find the fact that there was no insurance to be all that shocking…what is surprising is that the mom didn’t level with the daughter that their financial situation had to change.

A story in today’s Dallas Morning News states that the autopsy report discloses that the daughter was shot from behind and at a distance-- not up close and personal.

Welcome back, 07DAD. I like to think that the daughter had no idea that the lies were lies and had no idea what happened to her. The Morning News article sort of reinforced that for me.

missypie–I think (and hope) you are right.

I think you are both right. And that makes it better for the daughter but even worse contemplating this mother. Missy – thanks for understanding my situation. I check on the insurance monthly now. Sigh.

Yes, it would be better if Corinne never knew anything. Hopefully never even felt any pain. Still, I read the article and it says she was wearing a grey tank top and denim shorts. I could totally picture MY daughter in that outfit, in the laundry room, pulling things out of the dryer… but I cannot comprehend ANY circumstances that would EVER lead me to stand in the laundry room doorway, point a gun at my precious, beautiful daughter and pull the trigger. Its beyond comprehension… I don’t think any of us will ever understand.

That was chilling for me to read, too. (Of course, my D doesn’t do her own laundry.)

As is probably true in every generation, the girls have a certain “uniform” and a certain hairstyle. It is moderately regional…on one out of state college tour, there was a girl who was almost a clone of D, down to the purse and ring…turns out she lives in our town but goes to a private HS. Corinne lived not far from us, so picturing her as dressing just like my own D makes me even sadder.
