FedEx Rant!!!

At least he was honest.

When you work for the federal government, there is usually NOT a mailbox at work you can you, and we couldn’t get mail sent there either. One (private) building I worked in had a mailbox in the lobby, but the only pickup was at 10 am. The other building didn’t have a box, but the building next door did.

I ordered something from Amazon last Tuesday (I think) and it was scheduled for Friday delivery. On Thurs I got an email that the item would be delivered late, not until 8 pm. It wasn’t a big deal as it is a gift for my daughter who is out of the country and won’t be back until 12/31. I got home at about 4 and it was there.

Ok, here’s my rant about Fed Ex: before Christmas, I stopped at the Fed ex facility and shipped two packages to the same residential address. I have a Fed ex account with a charge card on it as I used to ship a lot of packages to dd. Anyhow, the bill was $28. Two weeks later, I see on my charge card that I was charged $14 more! I stopped by Fed ex and they had no explanation but gave me the number to call. I called and the woman says that the receipt I had is more like a quote. What! I am at a Fed ex shipping center, they weighed it, measured it and took the address. What could change? The woman on the phone says, " there’s a charge for residential addresses and a charge for extended area addresses." Well, no one mentioned that to me. The woman says that the shipping center should have informed me. I told her that I thought this seems rather fraudulent as there is nothing on the receipt about that. So the woman goes and talks to her supervisor (inadvertently hanging up on me) and comes on and tells me that they will credit my account $14 since no one informed me about the charges. I have never had this happen with Fed ex before. I think I will pull my charge card and only pay cash from now on.

Wow, that does sound fraudulent! I’ve never had any company charge me more than I was originally charged when I had the credit card run. I’d pay cash in the future now as well. I don’t use FedEx most of the time, since they’re usually MUCH higher than USPS or UPS from or to HI.

So I have a Fed Ex story for you. I am in charge of ordering for the business I work for. I placed a very large order amounting to about $35,000. The day of delivery the delivery drivers brought in all of the boxes and were wanting us to sign stating we had received all of our packages. The thing is she had brought 23 boxes when the delivery clearly stated there should be 24. My receptionist refused to sign as there was a missing package. As the driver was standing there someone walks in carrying a package. That they found. In the middle of the road. About 15 miles from our address. The delivery driver refused to believe it fell off of her truck and swore up and down someone else dropped it.

I called and filed a complaint to which I did get a call back after we had closed. “Henry” left a number for me to contact him at but that number just rang and rang. No voicemail or answering service. No matter how many times I called I never reached anyone.

We also once had one of the drivers see our receptionist across the street at the gas station and handed her our delivery there not even bothering to come to our place of business with several heavy boxes.

Wow! That’s awful @livinginLA! I’d seriously look into switching to another company with better customer service.

@HImom If I had a choice I would. The vendors we purchase from choose the shipment company.

Next time, prepare the FedEx label online. The FedEx.com website will save the tracking number and email delivery updates to you automatically.

I’d let the vendors know about the horrible experiences you’ve had–their other customers may have similar problems and they may be inclined to switch if enough folks make enough noise.

Yep I have told them about our problems. So far hasn’t gotten me anywhere.

A quick update to my own FedEx rant (they dropped the package on the doorstep without getting a signature as required and paid extra for) – we had a call from FedEx’s security department wanting more details. I have a security camera at my front door and was able to pull up video from the day the package was left. It was clear that the guy just dropped it and headed back to the truck. He never rang the bell. FedEx requested the video so I sent it. They did tell me that the delivery guy wasn’t a FedEx employee, but a “helper”.

I was glad to see that they took the complaint seriously, but I don’t trust them anymore and will avoid FedEx whenever possible from now on.

My sister in-law sent her son’s xmas present to my mom’s house because that’s where we were going to be before xmas. It never arrived before xmas even though it was suppose to. They told SIL it would be there the Tue after xmas. My nephew took a trip out to my mom’s house to pick it up without checking with my mom if the package was there. They waited all day for the package and it never showed up. They called FedEx to get the status all day, and were finally told everyone has gone home. My nephew then spoke with a manager to get the package re-routed to his home in CA. The manager took down the information and assured him the package would get delivered to CA.

Well, you guessed it. It arrived at my mom’s house on Wed, after my nephew and his family have left for CA. Now, I will need to go to NJ to pick up the package, so the nephew could get it from me (NYC) on his way back to college.

@oldfort Can you get Fedex to pick up the package and redeliver it to CA at their expense? Sounds like they dropped the ball here.
