<p>I think what NJDS posted, though unfortunate, is probably a mentality shared by a good deal of the incoming freshman who are indeed used to being at the top of their class. That competitive nature could very well cause a potential burnout to those who take such a mentality to Stanford, which is among those factors which drove me to ask my original question.
